Get together at Seabird WA

This year the weather gods were kind to us for our get together here in Seabird WA, and we had about 14 or 15 vans here, had a blast.  Most have left now, those of us who are still here are mostly from over East, and we will all be leaving over the next few days to continue our travels.

Sufil (Sue and Phil and daughter Tracey) are fantastic hosts, making all of us feel right at home.  We thank them sincerely for their hospitality.

If you are going to be in the West around October next year, keep an eye on the "Get Together" section on this forum, you too will be made most welcome, and meet many new friends.

Hope all are aware of the pending restrictive legislation WA are contemplating. They are currently seeking submissions, don't know how to link but if you google WA RV draft legislation you should find it. Would encourage all to have a look and make representation if you feel effected.

In short my reading is that your get together would not go ahead next year under what is being planned

Hi

You can use this link to get a sample document to send off to the Dept. Local Govt. in WA

https://www.cmca.net.au/component/content/article/11-cmca-general-articles/440-caravan-camping-legislation-consultation

We do need everyone to send a note of concern to the Government.

From what I know about the new legislation, and having spoken with a Ranger with the Wanneroo City Council (one of the large councils in Perth), the restrictions on staying in an RV at someones house is intended to stop long term camping and primarily because of neighbor complaints.

Hopefully Sue and Phil don't have petty neighbours and at least they wont be affected. No doubt some councils will go looking for RVs being used, but because so many people nowdays have an RV parked at the front, side or rear of the house, the less officious councils will only investigate if neighbours complain as it is difficult to prove the van is being lived in (even with the water and power hooked up)

Maybe (if they don't already lol) Sue and Phil need to involve their immediate neighbours in some evening drinks and laughs with visitors and they and Tracey can continue to be great hosts for those travelling through the area.

They are reasonably lucky being at Seabird and I understand they have a large block, so they probably don't have neighbour issues, but many councils and shires throughout the country already have by-laws for camping at a house and some enforce them. All the new draft legislation is doing is applying it across all of WA

The other big concern is the impact it will have on small CP's that struggle to survive now and will have to upgrade and comply and those who have low income folk living permanently on site. There is one CP on the outskirts of Perth that is totally full of these people and there are no rentable sites available. It is kept clean and very well maintained and 99% of the people are elderly with permanent metal and wooden annexes attached to the sides of the van (potentially these will have to be removed or made "transportable"

We, and Sue and Phil are aware of the legislation that is being considered. The property here is on 5 acres, with an outside septic loo, bore water to several taps on the property, neighbours are nice people, and we are not that noisy as to disturb neighbours anyway.

Hopefully common sense prevails and the proposed legislation will not be passed. In meantime, will use the above link, and have a say.

Thanks Jules for taking the time to have a say.

Under the proposal if you have 2 or more caravans/motor homes on your property then you would need to apply to council for an events permit. Such application would need to be accompanied with an application fee and also a "Management Plan".

If the RV community express their concern in large numbers, then Government will need to reconsider the Legislation.

Unfortunately this will have impact on WA's ability to attract RV Tourists to WA.

Cheers

Hi Bevin, we understand the impact if the legislation goes through. We had about 2eople here over the last week, and half of them are from the Eastern states, and we possibly would not come back.

Our hosts have three vans on their property, theirs and their families, what about them, in this stupid scheme?
