RIP Curtis Cheng. As a civilian police employee you were not on the front line and would not have been told by NSW Police Command to be on your guard for your own safety.
We all feel for your family.......
It is also sad that the state govt is not talking of making a large ex gratia payment to his wife and children to at least make their life financially secure. This man died "on duty" and his family should be given a substantial payment, rather than individual police officers and the public being asked for donations to the family.
PLEASE do not make religious, racist or political comments if you choose to comment on my post - as it will be quickly closed down by Cindy.
Instead show solidarity for this dead man and his family

Yes I have to say this is extremely sad. I have to say that I agree with what you have written in your post. It is tempting to say the world has become a terrible place, but in reality it has always been this way, the only thing that has changed is our ability to communicate these events around the world instantly.
As the family are victims of crime, I would hope that they can get some form of compensation from the courts, be it that process takes time. In the mean time I think the state/federal government should give financal assistance/compensation to the family without the red tape.
There is a Twitter post calling for donations from the NSW Police Department for the Cheng family, I'm not going to post the link because I think the NSW Police should be at the very least be making these sorts of requests from an official website and not posting donation payment details via a twitter/facebook account.
My heart goes out to the Cheng Family.
