Insurance and then some?

Hi all,

Firstly I did a Search on the subject of insurance for vans.

We will be collecting our first ever new Jayco  pop top at years end.

I have a number of questions to ask.

We have all our policies with NRMA = discounts. No claims ever.

In the past we have had full 12 month cover on the boat, then went to lay up cover  because of non useage, on our boat, as it is under lock and key in the cave.

1. Dose anyone know if any of the insurance Co's have such policies. As I have not approached  Nrma on the matter as yet.

2.The new van will all so be kept in the cave under lock and key out of site.

3. I got a quoat from CIL at the Penrith show just on a whim. @ $50,000 cover with $1000 for personals, We can top this part up.Quoat =  $820 and can pay by the month at no extra cost.evileye PS: that's 10% off with the ESC as well.

4. Again for around $50,000 cover what do the average pay. As some are on the road full time, and others part time like we will be.confuseconfuseconfuse

5. What are the pro's and con's to look out for please.

6. Feel free to just answer part of one question, or you welcome to give me the full Monty.

7. I feel Nrma will better quoat, when We lean on them.

We need to impower ourselves.

Regards Jim & Lambie

G'day Jim and Lambie,

We have had cover with NRMA, CIL, GIO and currently with WFI.

Only ever had one claim 10 years ago for hail damage.

Our last quote from GIO(last year) was around $1100 for 68,000 + 2000 contents agreed value.

We got the same cover from WFI for $574.

We find NRMA cheaper $1150 for $140000 Motorhome. No I can't find anyone who will insure "layup" as you call it.When we first started I thought this would be normal.Get a rate for say 9 months stored rate then 3 months on the road but all said no. A lot of folks swear by Ken Tame Insurance but I find him more expensive then NRMA
Made a claim for a windscreen this week and before my wife was off the phone (landline) they had texted the go ahead repair number, can't beat that

Just my thoughts. You will get lots of comments
Cheers

Be careful to compare apples with apples. I found some insurance companies don't cover damage caused by others when you have given them authority to have caravan or motor home. That means when van goes in for a service and gets damaged it is up to you to recover the money from service centre. You will need to pay for the repairs before you can claim back. Fortunately  Ken Tame covered our Motorhome repairs and it is due to go to court end of this month for the insurance to recover the money. Damage happened May 2012 and we a talking in excess of $100,000.

I'm an NRMA Gold Card Member over 50 years - Have a permanent 60% no claim bonus yet they are $330 dearer than QBE on a $80K van also they want to "market value" rather than "insured value". When I advised NRMA they would not reduce premium one iota.

Jim. You spent too much time drinking Irish "blood" judging by the spelling in your post - lol. When you get back, stick to the carton red and fish and chips !!!

Neil is right to check out the fine details of what you get for your money.

I got a good quote from our main Insurer SGIO price wise because of multiple policies, but when I got into the details, so many things (particularly things like tablets, phones, laptops and anything easy to pinch was excluded). Also I could not get increased cover for "contents" - it was a fixed amount and no cash.

WA's equivalent of the NRMA was the same.

Also make sure you are covered off road (that doesn't mean dragging the 'van over mountain ranges - but driving done a non-dedicated road for example or across the grass to the side of a river) and things like hail and storm damage.

We ended up going with CIL - still cheaper than the two Ive mentioned above and I simple policy that covers everything and we could stipulate an agreed amount and specify how much "contents" cover we took.

Hi Bruce & Bev,

Well that's it. Here I was going to allow you to go down into my wine cellar and take your pick each night. Well now you can pick from either the soft fruity red cask or the fruity white cask.

You can let my Footman know before the first course.

Come to think of it, I'm the footman. So you can serve yourself.

Ok what did I spell wrong this time? I failed allllllllllll spelling tests way back then. Nothings changed.wink

PS: The Irish Guinness now flows through our veins to the point, of heading off to Dan Murphys to find bottled only brew.winkwinkwink

For years we had all our insurances with RACV, not any more. GIO leaves them & others for dead & we're saving a packet. House/contents/caravan/car/boat/camper trailer all with GIO.
Job done!

Gooday,
Why not insure both Tow Vehicle and Caravan through CMCA Broker Ken Tame and Associates, OK you have to join costs Approximately $65 for first year with joining fee then $45 a year thereafter currently, you are only an associate member but well worth it for the Insurance. WE do both of ours through therm have done for several years for less than half what we paid the other Pirates, you get the other benefits as well.
The Cover is with Allianz who are actually a Major Shareholder in Ken Tame & Associates.
