Hi. I have just had my Big 4 gold card discount declined and only given basic NRMA discount although its a Big 4 park. Told its not available on shoulder season. Is this normal practice?? Big 4 club is making enquiries and will get back to me Monday but curious if it happens a lot.
I agree with Doug, but theres now so many different CP marketing groups who offer a discount card (with an initial cost), that its not worth having them, especially when you work out the discount you get if you belong to 2-3 of them.
Better off to stay at the many independants that are around and those who give a Seniors discount (and many are now discounting for cash and no receipt lol) if you want a CP or use the low cost ones that don't have the mini putts, tennis courts. play grounds and bouncy trampolines which add to the cost.
That assumes you don't like free or low cost camping of course
Sorry Missy - this is off topic, but Dougwe and I have a bit of a habit of doing that lol

Missyb, I think you will find that the park is legally allowed to set it's own terms and conditions of your stay and should have a sign somewhere that states what the T&C's are.
interested to know what big4 tell you though.
please keep us informed

You do realise why they don't give a receipt for cash: They probably do not declare it in their tax return. Oh well the tax office will catch up with them.
G'day and welcome to the forum missyb when the NRMA first started buying caravan parks they went with a big multi media program saying they were going to provide great low cost options for caravan families but from my experience they are among the most expensive.
Big 4 don't get to see me I don't use their parks they are way too expensive for this little duck and they expect me to pay for stuff that I don't need or want in a park, like others have said use a non club park and show your seniors card and you usually get a discount equal to the club discount without having to pay membership fees.
Don't forget to let us know what big 4 say.

Welcome missyb, we had these memberships for a year or two and found them to be a waste of money. I f I can't wiggle a discount with either my seniors or pension card, we move on till we can. I live by the motto, if you don't ask you won't get.
Take care and enjoy our forum.

Well I have wondered just recently if prior to starting a tour around this glorious country of ours it would be worth joining a few caravan park chains such as Big4.
Looks like I've got my answer.
Thanks missyb for asking the question. :)
Cheers, Tom

I had a thought but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
Some parks buck the system like that. Just as well not all of them do. The Harvey Bay C/P suggest you don't take the 10% OzPark discount but take their weekly rate of one free night (works out to 14%.) However other OzParks give you the 10% on top of the weekly rate. I have now stopped going there as their weekly rates have shot up more than other parks.

When you travel there never seems to be an off season If it's not school holidays somewhere in Australia a long weekend, a local festival of or the expectation of the second coming then it has to be between certain hours on some Tuesday in July before your pre purchased discount loyalty card applies . Some schemes only kick in when you are staying longer than four days.
I pay in cash to avoid the illegal surcharges some parks apply when you use a debit or credit card , Which is a totally separate issue so I won't go there.

just contacted Big 4 again as no one had got back to me. The lovely lady very quickly sorted it out and all Big 4 Gold members are entitled to 10% at all Big 4 NRMA parks. NRMA have spoken to staff and advised that gold card holders are definitely entitled to the discount. Hated that I had to fight to get what I was entitled to but happy with outcome.
