Caravan swallowed by sinkhole Inskip Point Queensland

A car, a caravan and a camper trailer were swallowed by a sinkhole at Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach, Qheensland last night at 11pm.

This is very scary. Has anyone from our forum been involved in this. Seems a few tents, cars and caravans went down. The aerial view shows quite a lot of land has gone into the see with quite a depth.

Scary stuff, think we might skip the beach and find somewhere a little more secure the next time we visit.

Regards

Seem to be quite a few in the aerial shot parked further down the beach and in a bit, is that a CP?

Thanks for sharing that Troopy. smile

 Hi Weevil,

no, it's a carpark/camping area.  Popular with backpackers.  Also near where the Fraser Island ferry hops off.

We went out there once, and high-tailed it out of there - it was a touch too feral for our tastes - rubbish & backpackers everywhere*.

*Not all backpackers are bad, but the ones out there had made one HELL of a mess, and were all hammered and working on getting more so - at 8 in the morning.

We have been there often. The sink hole is in the MV Beagle camp area. The caravans you can see in the picture is in the MV Sarawak area and the caravans you can see is what is commonly referred to as "Millionaires Row". We were there a few weeks ago. Would have been bloody scary, especially at night. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

I really feel for the owners of this van and tug. I hope that the insurance company will not fight the claim.
