Plastic taste in water

Hey guys, have been traveling for about 10 months & out of the blue the water in van starts tasting like plastic, we mainly use water connected through main, not out of our tanks, we have the right water hose ( blue ), any ideas as to why this would be happening, thanks would appreciate any tips, cheers Mazâșïž

Welcome to the gang Maz, enjoy here and out in the playground.

The only thing I could think of is if the hose is old, it might be time for a new one. There was someone here only recently had similar problems with a new 'Pope' hose, changed it to another brand and all good.

Keep safe out there.

Edit....Maybe fit an In-line filter just before the van inlet. I use B.E.S.T. available in most good CV accessory places or on line. Around $110 but well worth it.

I would suspect the hose in your situation before anything else. The hose does not need to be old to have this problem either, some can taste awful despite being labelled as a "drinking water hose"

I would be looking for a "food grade hose" from a supplier other than a big hardware store.

Hi, if you bought your " food grade" hose from Bunnings it will taste like plastic. If it's light blue in colour and food grade it will be quiet hard, soft blue hoses taste like plastic. Have not heard a bad word against white food grade hoses.

you may find its the water from the tap.always run a tap for a while before connecting the hose.ants ,dirt get up the tap and can produce a terrible  taste.it should not last too long

Hi guys
Like stl I haven't heard anything bad about white water hoses. I've been using one for a couple of years with no problems.

Ok  try to flush out with salt water solution VERY strong and let sit and then flush.

Never had a bad light blue OR light blue braided OR  white braided water hose.

I suggest you have some bacteria in there ie if water is left in hose in hot sun etc,,, as someone said flush hose before connecting if it's a problem. Also if in a van park that's not very busy I open the tap and look at the water. The last CP we stayed at I refused to connect to the water it was crap.

Drain tank. Close drain valve. Dissolve half a packet of bi carb soda in very warm water, pour into the water tank and fill with uncontaminated water. Leave it for a week then drain and flush twice. You should have no more problems. Happy caravanning
