I have never towed one . But seriously , I have a new SX extra cab , alloy tray and tow a 1250kg Tvan , you will get plenty of owners tell you they tow 2.5T + and say they don't know it's there , that's a huge exaggeration . I would be looking for something with more power .

I have a 2 wheel drive D max tray back towing 2 ton van loaded 12l per 100kms my only problem it likes to go faster than I think it should !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our MY15 D-Max tows out 3t van well. I would never be so stupid to say "I never know it's there" as some I have heard but it does do the job admirably considering the lower torque & power output compared to some other dual cab utes.
I think this is because it's power is available over a wider rev range. I know it gets away from a standstill better than our previous, higher specc'd Triton. It is also more economical and I expect the motor to outlast any of the 'neck wrung' competitors.
Cheers Neil

we have a 2014 DMax SX. This is the bottom of the range model, but we bought it specifically to tow with. Obviously its the cheapest, so the two Dealers sales staff we spoke to weren't motivated by commissions to sell us downwards (we were going to buy a mid range model DMax). But they recommended the SX model because it has stiffer rear springing, making it better for tow loads and all rubber flooring and mats - no wet and muddy carpets that smell.
In just under a year, we have done 41,000 in it and towed it over some of Aussies steepest mountains and it hasn't missed a beat. Plenty of grunt, tows well and has an Isuzu light truck motor so that any country mechanic can get his head around. It is rated to tow 3.5 T. We pull 3T and it purrs around. We often have to wake up to the fact on long straight roads we are way over the 110kmh speed limit and lighten the right foot.
I would buy another DMax again. The 40K service is the dearest and cost us $705 from a Dealer as they tighten the tappets then as well. Otherwise services usually cost between $200-300.
My son has a Navara and his expensive service was quoted by two different city Dealers at just over $1400. He got it done by a general mechanic for $800 (but for a major service a Dealer is better)

I have a 2012 LSU Dmax Dual cab which is my second Dmax...I only changed the first one when the new shape came out.
My thoughts on the Dmax echo Delta18(Neil) and would agree with most of the other posters comments here. My ute tows a 21ft full van.
A very good reliable vehicle whereby its makers don't play the power numbers game but supply a vehicle which will do the job economically and for a long time with few problems.
Hi,
Those who have said they have the D-Max can you tell me if it's an auto or manual please? Hubby and I are looking at either the D-Max Terrain or the new Hilux SR5 (when they are released), just wondering if we go with an Auto or Manual when doing a lot of towing....
Cheers!
