Dad and Dave was a bit of a skit on the radio back in the 1940s & 50s. It used to be on most evenings, and was about the life and adventures of a Victorian outback farmer and his son. Dave started out as a little boy, and grew into a big boy, and when he was about 18 he married Mable. The story goes like this.
Just after they were married, Mable said to Dave one day. I don't think we should use that word sex anymore, it is OK for Sheep and Cattle but can we say something different like maybe washing machine, instead? Dave says, "Yes my darling, anything you want".
A couple of nights later after crawling into bed Dave said, "Can I use the washing machine", and Mable said "Not now I am reading".
Half hour latter Dave says again, "Can I use the washing Machine", and Mable says again, "No I am still reading"
Half an hour later Dave is rolling over to go to sleep and Mable says, "You can use the washing machine now".
Dave says, "It was only a little wash, so I did it by hand".
