Hi to you all We are from VIC am over 60 (just a little) and therefore have a SENIORS card. This card is is issued by the VIC state gov and READS The holder is valued member of our community Please extend every courtesy and assistance. As g/ns cant afford or don't wish to pay for over rated c/parks at over rated prices the parks could be given an incentive to join the gov run program and offer senior card holders a fair and reasonable rate discount such discounts are already offered by shops/ pubs/ and others a seniors meal at a pub can be a 3 course meal for as litle as 10/14 $ SO maybe there should be a push to aks C/Parks and others to get on board just a thought ......
Some already do Robert but they don't advertise it anywhere. If I stay in a CVP I always ask if they do senior discount. I have had a few that do.
I remember about 3 years ago I was in Kiama and had one of those Auction discount voucher, I also had a toursism voucher for any CVP in that area. I booked in and in the end I got the 2 voucher discount's, senior discount and on top of that pay for six get seventh free. I ended up staying for 18 days and really only paid for 14. I was avery happy camper in a very nice area I might add.

Dishlicker, there are a lot of Parks and attractions that offer discounts for Seniors,it is best to ask if there is a discount.
As some employees have been abused when they ask if you are a Senior.and they are only trying to save you money.
So it is policy in most business, not to ask the customer if they are a Senior. But when you look like I do,it is blatantly obvious I'am well over 60 so they will ask then.
I think you'll find that the larger caravan groups that have loyalty cards (which cost $$) would be dead against such a discount as it would erode/diminish the member base in their loyalty program = no market advantage.
We find that many parks actually charge you less than the advertised rate for their sites especially in off-season times without the need for the customer (you) having to ask for a discount. Many people like us do not like asking for a discount - why do you deserve it?
Usually we find if the store does give a seniors discount it will be given automatically, that's been our experience.
Good Luck.
On our way back from our bush camping trip in the Big Desert VIC we stopped at Nhill CP. They have a large sign out the front ''SENIORS CARD DISCOUNT''. Lovely friendly lady asked if we were seniors & didn't even ask to see our cards (we have got them), we paid $24/nt with power instead of $28. We've struck a few other CP's that do the same. Don't go anywhere near Big 4's!

We always ask if the park gives seniors, or motoring organisation cards, have a friend who owns a park, she says she will always give a discount on these cards, be they from the same state or not. It is well worth asking when you book in.

It's quite random where Seniors Cards are accepted. Some Subways offer discount, those who don't don't even know about it. Pubs offer seniors meals but it's only a size and rarely requires the Card to be produced unless a free coffee or desert is part of the deal. Some places who offer Seniors discounts don't often ask just in case the person is not a senior and takes offence. Doesn't happen in van parks but can happen.
Got a huge discount in Tuncurry in a cabin recently. One discount because out of season, another as there was some off-season maintenance being done, and another because we booked > 3 nights.

If you do not like to ask for a discount and would I hazard a guess that you pay full price for everything? I may be wrong. If you ask for a discount the worst is that they can say no. What is wrong with trying to get something cheaper? That is why I buy some of my needs from overseas via the internet. Instead of paying $95 for a particular branded item in Australia when I can get the exact branded item from OS at about $40. My renewal insurance on 2 vehicles was 10% dearer than last renewal. I spoke to the insurance company and got the price on one vehicle to be the same as last renewal and the other on was cheaper.
I have a saying it is better off in my pocket than someone elses.

The reason it is often cheep to buy OS it that no GST has been applied. Recently has been announced that GST will be applied to on line shopping in a couple of years time - won't be so cheap then.

So that means my $40 purchase will cost me $44. Still very cheap. Australian businesses need to look at their pricing. Another example was an instruction manual I purchased some time ago in Australia it was $80 plus postage, from Amazon US $40 landed at my door within 10 days. The interesting thing is that apparently Treasury had stated that it will cost more to administer than what is collected. It would appear that the Government [Federal and States] have kowtowed to wingers like Gerry Harvey who made their $$'s on goods imported from OS.
What about the discount Maccas offers Seniors - woop dee doo - its such a joke I cant even remember (being a geriatric) what it is now. Think you get a small free juice with a burger or something like that.
A good way of saving on CP's is using wikicamps. You read all the comments from those who were there before (and the majority all say its either a good or bad one) and theres also pics they have posted.
You then go onto their web site and most (especially those like Big 4 and others) will offer large discounts outside of peak times or school holidays.
We don't normally book CPs in advance as we prefer to arrive and view. Bit wikicamps and all the pics and comments are pretty accurate.
We are staying at a CP in Canberra for 4 nights in 10 days time. I booked in through their web-site about 4 weeks ahead and it works out the 4th night will be free. This offer would not have applied if we had just turned up. We also didn't get charged the premium rate for two of the nights when Floriade is on (and all the accommodation rates in CPs, motels and hotels sky rockets). That made the 3rd night almost free!!!

i had been told by a few people living in Qld that seniors cards arent available to people until they turn 65. Highly disappointed as i was about to turn 60 but i went to the website and read the rules... Qld seniors cards are available at 60.... cant remember the wording now but it is something that gets misread or misinterpreted it would seem. 3 weeks before my 60th birthday i sent off my online application and got my seniors card a couple of days after my birthday. I have told all my friends who thought they had to be 65 and they are all now in possession of Qld seniors cards so anyone in Qld over the age 60 should go back to the website and read the rules carefully and submit an application

We have had a Qld Seniors Business Card since John turned 60 five years ago. He now has a Seniors Card now that he has turned 65. There is no difference in the discounts that we can see

Seniors cards are issued by the State and are 60+. However, another deal is a Low Income Health Care Card if you are not on some sort of Centrelink pension. You can get them at any age provided you earn < $7304 in prior 8 weeks to applying for it ($913 / week). To earn $913 / week on todays interest rates you would have to in excess of $1,500,000 in funds (Centrelink use deeming on money in Banks). No idea how it works on super as I cashed mine in and manage it outside the super system. A lot of people who retire before 65 are not aware of this facility. Very much same discounts as a Pension Card (medical, car rego, water, electricity, entry to major events etc.)

Q. Is the Seniors Card at 65 the Centrelink one if you don't qualify for an aged pension? If it is, I think there are a lot more discounts - refer to my prior post.
Our Seniors Card, while issued through Qld Gov, did not come to us via centre link. It appeared to have been generated automatically when Dr D Turned 65. WE have not really looking into all the discounts, as mostly they are "city based" and we try not to do much "city based" visiting. Mostly we use the cafe discounts. When we pay for things, we ask "concession?" If they say yes, we have a choice between the Seniors Card, the HCC or the Pension card. Have not been knocked back on any - yet.

1. IGA supermarket has a Seniors Day on Thursday. No discount on specials but better than nothing.
2. Join every club/pub locally that has free membership. They often send you a free something (drink, desert, main) for your birthday plus other promotions. My mum and dad never played pokies but I reckon they were members of every club/pub that had pokies in Ballarat (actually required by law if you are local).
3. Brumbies bakery often have freebies if you buy so much. Dearer that the supermarket but I do like their fresh bread.
4. Got a discount book from my energy company. Just about everything was "city based" but a few were not. Used all of them.
5. My kids used always go the the Reception at van parks and get all the brochures looking for freebies. Used be lots in major resorts. Haven't looked recently.
6. Woolies & Coles cards. Don't go out of my way to shop there, but I cash points for $ from time to time.
7. Complain when someone like Telstra, a Bank or an Energy company stuffs you around. And hang on until you get your problem fixed. Most companies just give you the run-around hoping you will go away. If you carry on and tell them the inconvenience they've caused you, sometimes they may give you a credit on your account. Call centres hate retirees in their 50s & 60s because they have time and experience to get what they want.
Too many "discounts" given by companies / organisations that I deal with (Energy, Insurance etc) offer discounts with companies on goods I'd never buy and places I'd never visit.
Some supermarkets (not the big 2), have "seniors day"- IGA are one of them, maybe not all stores though, think you get 10% discount on seeing your Seniors Card
, does not apply to pension cards, only seniors.
Macc as, you get free coffee with burger purchase. Some Subways do a Seniors lunch, six inch sub and coffee. Bakers delight also have discounts, lots of cafes etc., in food courts etc. one fuel station in Tennant Creek NT, give you a discount, only 4c litre, but it adds up.

We decided when we bought our park to offer a seniors card discount, we have it on our rates card on the front counter that we give $2 off for seniors card but I don't always ask guests if they have a seniors card because i am terrified one day I will insult someone who is 50 but looks a lot older! Having said that, we have a roadside sign on order "club cards and seniors discount" to let potential guests driving past know we will give a discount on all club cards and seniors cards.
I am guessing most privately run caravan parks would not be able to offer enormous discounts as now not being a traveller but a park owner I am reaslising how high the standing charges are. Having said that, we both love being park owners and look forward to every new day.

It's not hard to see why grey nomads, free campers and caravanners sometimes get a bad name in towns outside the big smoke - most of those smaller towns and villages that we love to visit are flat out scratching a living - generally you are the only customer when you call in for a look-see.....then ask for a discount?
I'll show my card if it's made plain that they accept it but otherwise I'm happy to pay the going rate, after all I don't consider myself 'special'.
Good Luck.
Kmart do a seniors card special one day every month.
Seniors Cards are issued by States and what you get in each State varies widely. But given it costs you nothing, you get great discounts and well worth having
