We are presently staying at the freedom camp at Bauple Queensland (near Maryborough). The locals are trying hard to survive and put in a freedom camp to attract visitors and income to their village. I think it is fair to say that the locals think council has not been helpful and searches of the internet are filled with details of the clashes between locals wanting to attract RVers and a council whose focus is on other forms of commercial camping or larger businesses over the last few years.
But there is a free, beautiful, clean, grassed camp in the village and Bauple asks you to come.
See the home of Australia's own bauple (macadamian nut). Friendly locals. An interesting museum and just minutes away from the Bruce Hwy - a good nights sleep without traffic noise!
Come and enjoy country hospitality in a beautiful area. Even if the council is trying to push you into their own selected commercial areas.
Stop for the night to enjoy Bauple next time you are passing by.
a great Post Maureen. So good you are or should be in mass marketing ! LOL
We will certainly visit them next year when in QLD - if the council doesn't get its way. Its sad to see the commercial interests of a few dictate what the council decides, despite what local businesses want and need to survive. Whatever happened to Councilor's representing their Wards???
We had a similar problem with the Northern Ward reps at Wanneroo City Council. Two of them that are the lap dogs of the Mayor and as a result the Ward suffers badly from lack of work from the Council - instead going into the Mayors Ward. Fortunately, the local people - also known as RATEPAYERS, have finally gotten over the apathy and it looks like there will be 2 new Reps in the Ward next election (and hopefully the Mayor will go as well)
Now we need to stop property developers and real estate agents being Councilors' and also being able to vote on projects that they have a financial interest in - look at Auburn council as an example !!!!!

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
Went through Bauple recently - we were staying in nearby Poona - Bauple Free Camp looks a good spot - better than Tairo, which is on a slope - give it a try.

Funny my sister and husband has just bought a house there. They were Grey Nomads and she does tend to get involved with the local scene.
I'll have to sow some seeds
These are the places we all love to stay at. If only the People in charge of these Towns didn't wait until the place was too run down to call for help. Open your Town at a Fair price and we will come , buy and stay.
I have always liked Bauple, Tiaro is a great little town as well,so do try not to put down RV friendly towns like Tiaro.
Kev
Wasn't putting Tiaro dow, nice little town with great free camps, but the one behind the visitors centre IS on a slope, sorry if you thought I was putting the town down, have stayed there myself.
And Marj do go in, well worth it, not sure if the shop is open or not now.
