Bus Conversion Selection Help

That old itch is back keep the Van or go motorhome ,  really a DYI small bus conversion is in mind .  Had a Madaza T3500 or a bigger T 4200 in mind . Not looking for a fully  converted one but maybe a bare bones fitout.  It's hard to find exactly what I'm after as the converted ones have a lot of gear onboard which I don't think I need or could better fit myself,

Has anyone got a Mazada like I want  I would appreciate your views on the rig or any recommendations on what not to buy in that range    the madaza just comes to mind as they look wider than the coaster ?????? or I maybe  take a lend of myself  not sure  .  Things like motor size , rego cost models to avoid   etc are of real interest

How, wombat 280,

When you say Mazada, do you mean Mazda?

Hey hey, Wombat... I just replied to your PM and thought I'd check the recent posts. I'm in the process of converting a T3500 that I bought as a recently retired school bus, you can check out my fit-out thread here. It's early days as you'll see, but I'm in no hurry and want to keep it usable while I slowly add bits and pieces along the way. I'm actually fitting a Fiamma 45S 4.0m awning tomorrow.

I think the T3500 is an excellent choice, the 3.5 litre 4 cylinder diesel is a good compromise of power and economy for mine. As far as size goes, there's only about 2cm difference in any direction compared to a short wheel base Coaster. I'm not aware of Mazda making the T4200 as a bus, I think they only made it as a truck.

If the one on your post is the one it's the type I'am considering Do you think the 3.5 is beefy enough to tow a small boat trailer or flat two a Vitara .
My intent was to fit it out with queen bed basic kitchen with large fridge, dunny and lounge area or recliners , the recliners will suit me better. I've never cooked inside our van I use the park kitchen or the Baby Q outside under the awning, like most oldies we do our living outdoors and only go inside to sleep or watch TV or go to the fridge .

Will look up your fit out

Yep, that's the one. I don't think you'd even know you had the tinny on the back Wombat, but I'll be able to tell you for sure in couple of weeks as I've  just bought a 12 foot tinny to take on the road. I'll let you know how it goes once I get the trailer sorted out and registered.

Maybe you could look at a Hino Liesse, 7mts in lenth, rear engine 5.3 lt turbo intercooled. Fuel consumption 16 lt per hundred.

Yep, nice bus... but I think it might be outside of Wombat's budget since he was specifically looking at the Mazda.
