Kalaree Rocks Dam, about 50kl east of Southern Cross, WA.
This a huge granit outcrop with a radius of 6kl . In the 1800's gold rush they built a split rock wall around the outcrop to catch water , used a half circle open steel trough rivereted together to carry the water to a holding dam, this was also used to resupply steam trains. Very smart & tough people of that time.
There's a large camp area with flush toots & fire places.5kl off hwy.good road in.

Jim. Sounds great!!! Get yourself any yellow stuff lol.
Having now done most of the States, Mainroads WA, do a great job with rest areas - far better than some of the Eastern States, BUT they don't put in water storage tanks. Often these places have natural water available. Is it to stop people staying too long - a free site, free toilets, free water - lets stay forever syndrome ???????????

Great place that we caught some Yabbies in the dam last year . We also went to caves Hill an other Calm park off to the right between Kalgoolie and Norsman . Interesting places with the way they used to direct the water flow into the dams .

JC, I think you may mean Karalee, nice little spot. I would always stop at the Karalee Hotel for a lemon squash in the days the hotel was there on my way to and from Kalgoorlie....Kisha
We stayed there for a few days last year and agree it is a fascinating place. We got lost on the rocks for a few hours and had to follow the rock wall back to the campsite. It was one of the highlights of the trip.
