The Lake Argyle irrigated farm land that was for the purpose of growing fruit & veg is now 80% owned by the chinese for the purpose of growing sandal wood ; in which the biggest part of is transported to Albany to the largest factory in the world for processing. Where is all of this going to end?
Denmark, WA. $100 on the spot for overnight resting anywhere in the shire; so gave their town the big miss.
Albany; great INFO centre, water tap out the front & sign posted for the use of travellers; two dump points in town, hot showers & toilets in the main street.
Can't buy a decent Naval Orange this season. Most of the orchards & packing facilities in the Mildura - Renmark citrus growing area where they come from are owned & operated (shipped overseas) by Chinese investors.
Nothing against them, but a decent ''real'' Naval Orange is hard to find these days. The domestic market here in Australia gets the ''seconds''. Maybe we should emigrate to China! LOL.

Hi Jim. I agree 100% that Australian land should not be sold to any overseas owned company or country, including China. Let them have a 99 year lease like so many of our large farm areas are - the land is owned by the State and leased to the farmer and his/her descendants, but the State can claim the land back if it chooses to.
I thought the food bowl area around Lake Argyle in WA had been leased to various Chinese companies - not sold outright to them.....does anyone know for sure?
Sounds like Denmark and Broome have too much Shire control by the caravan park industry. They will eventually rue this self-interest as their local businesses suffer from the huge downtown of the FIFO industry which is spread right throughout WA and RVers pass them by. Little fish in a little pond syndrome !

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
I have been saying for years that one day food will be the biggest commodity in the world. We will be buying food grown in Australia imported from overseas. One thing I was wondering about, and I'm not trying to be anti anything but at the moment Halal certification is a big thing in Australia, to my knowledge the Chinese do not have Halal certification. What will happen when our own food is imported from China.

99 yr lease; cattle stations in the NT have been taken back by the pollies. As a result the abbatoir's in Katherine are now closed due to no cattle, there is now only one motor vehicle dealer left in town so the place is dying.
INFO from a NP ranger at Katherine.
In the WA region when the lease is up the NP's are taking what they want of the land as well.
There's a lot of people in our system with very poor vision of the future & its even too late to make them an appointment with Spec Savers.

Unless you're Muslim, it won't affect you personally, but for food chains it might have an impact?

As a farmer my self I couldn't agree more land should only be able to be leased by foreign investors not sold,
And that goes for housing business and infrastructure as well, lease not sale
Australia should not be for sale

Totally agree we cannot buy land in China so why are the idiots that supposedly run this country and say proudly Australia is open for business and selling off land and infrastructure as quickly as they can to the Chinese or anyone who will pay, as has been previously they should only be able to to Lease and not for 99 years but between 5 and 10 years maximum and if they are exporting food it should have to be through an Australian Co Op.
Yes I am Australian and proud of it when it comes to Halal foods I have a book that lists the companies who pay to have their product approved Halal and I do not buy from them its really very easy and these companies will one day wake up that they are catering to less than 1% of the community and totally annoying and not selling their product to over 50% of the public heard two ladies talking over a coffee outside a Woolworths they were worried about what is put into the food to make it Halal guess I should have put them wise, maybe next time

Alll that water in Lake Argyle, and nearby Kunurra was on water restrictions when we were there last year. There was talk of raising the lake level by up to 5ft!!!! and pumping it to Perth!! - took 1/2 hour at 220 knots to fly over it!
