We have decided to do our Xmas trip to south Australia. Possibly starting at Mt, Gambier, robe, Adelaide, Woomera, and back through broken hill and Mildura.
My other half has said there is sand dunes over there and I'm definitely wanting to put some on our trip to slide down some on toboggans, (haven't done this since I was 8 and in the Simpson Desert.) I've tried doing some research, and found robe does have sand dunes, but everything I've read is dunes for 4wding. Are these possible ones for kids to slide down?
And any other recommendations on stops over there?
Thanks :) Emilee.

I remember many years ago as a young fella an area along the Coorong a little east of a place called SaltCreek and also Policemans Point there were some very large dunes along the coast at what was known as Ninety Mile Beach. On this stretch of beach you would not see another human being and a fantastic beach and stretch of ocean. This was at a time when this area was not designated as a National Park. We used to hunt rabbits in this area as there used to be so many of them in those days in the 60s.
Remember when you are there that being on the downward slide is not all bad, enjoy!
Not sure if they allow sliding down these Emilee, but do recall seeing some bits of cardboard and marks on the hills that seemed to be indicative of kids sliding down them, I am talking about red sandhills just outside of Wentworth, NSW, the border town just across the river from Mildura. It is a picnic area and toilets are there also. The museum in town is well worth visiting too.
There is a great spot just in through Patchewollock called the Snowdrift, pure white sandhills. Went there about fifteen years ago. If it is not signposted I am sure anyone in the township could direct you there. It's not far in from the town. Enjoy your travels and welcome to the playground. .... val
Yes there some fantastic sand dunes at "Pine planes " Patchewollock not to far from Ouyen I live not to far ( about an hour ) from them although I have never been there personally yeah slack I know I will get there eventually

There is an awesome sand dune that you can toboggan down just out of Beachport ,which is close to Robe (ask at the locals and they will give you the directions ) easy to find and only 2 mins away - A bit of work to get to the topof the dune , if you you nail the ride down the dune ,you will slide across the beach and land in the sea
do yourself a favour if you have time and stay at the pony club grounds , grassed ,quiet hot showers ,toilets ,no power from memory $20
A mate made a "board" years ago with benchtop laminate on ply, we took it out to the local dunes to try it out, the only description I can use is lethal!!!
No surface friction like cardboard or wood, it absolutely flew down the hills.
