Hi, We stayed at Jandowae with our C'van club a couple of years ago and checked out the dam while we were there. It looks like a good spot for a camp. There were toilets there but not much else. Good butcher in town. Have fun.
We stayed at the Jandowae showgrounds a few months ago.
Did a drive out to the dam. Very low water level, more a group of billabongs than a dam.
The amenities block had been hit by vandals. Being only a few Kms out of town it looks like the local undesirables frequent it.
As an aside we loved our stay at the showgrounds. Found the ladies in the charity shop lovely & the cafe next to the self serve servo very nice.
Been here now 2 nights ... Toilets and showers are spotless ... Showers are cold. Water can be got from the amenities block but you need a plumbers key ... We have been drinking it ... Tastes fine and we are still alive and no Bali-belly. Small site, room for about 6 vans ... No more. Police have called in once and we spoke to them ... They were very nice and told us to enjoy our stay. and driven past a couple of times, so I would think it is secure to stay here. dam is low, but still a nice outlook .... Not a group of waterholes ... Don't think they have had any rain recently? The grounds are will maintained ... slashed and no rubbish. wood BBQs and tables and shelters on site. Would be lovely to throw a kayak in and enjoy a paddle around the day. You can walk almost around the dam ... Takes about 2 hours return. Plenty of fire wood can be gathered in the immediate surrounds. Jandowae has a couple of pubs, small supermarket, hardware ... All the usual amenities you expect to find in a small rural town. We had company last night when a lovely young couple from Germany arrived in a Juicyvan ..... Not the usual backpackers ... If all young people were like Christina and Arthur we would not have such a thing about Backpackers in free camps ... Never heard their door being slammed shut .... Back now to being the only occupants. Will be here for a week or until we run out of gas and then we will pack up and move further south Towards home.
Nothing has been posted on any notice board regarding length of stay Bill, even checked at the info centre. We intend to stay a week or until we run out of gas ... Even the police told us to enjoy our stay here. Locals have not been here ... have driven by but that about it. however there were a couple of gents here with a power boat, however I think they may have been just checking the motor or trying out a new boat. Will see if any locals turn up over the weekend.
cheers
