@pugmohone

It's a great operating system too. It is what I use most of the time.

Hi all

Besides that I've go a virus protector,If I can't fix it it
I just go to my Paragon system backup and restore the whole hard drive in my case drive C
For people that are not computer specialist it makes a computer backup and can restore to what you had before
the program is free to use so far I know ( I use Paragon 2010)
It saved my bacon a few times in the past
I highly recommend this program

Cheers John

I've been running Windows operating systems for 20 years, never had a virus.

As far as Linux or other alternatives are concerned, I guess some people have a need to be different, I see no valid reason to abandon Microsoft products, they have served me well and continue to do so.biggrin

Any operating system can get a virus. Hackers don't target Linux based operating systems because hardly anyone uses them, and those that do are geeks and therefore know better than to click on unknown links, and how to get rid of a virus in any case.

If you have your security settings set appropriately and don't open emails and click on unsolicited links you won't have any problem.

There have always been cheap virus protection programs available and for at least 10 years there have been plenty of free ones.I've been using windows since it's first release in 1992 and have had a virus maybe 3 times, but have never had any trouble getting rid of them. These days Windows comes with it's own virus protection 'Windows Defender'.

Windows is the main target for hackers because 90% of PC's around the world run on one version of Windows or another.

I was a computer tech for 20 years and the single biggest issue people have always had with computers is not doing backups. You're far more likely to lose data through a hard drive failure than a virus attack. So if as Santa said you get a virus you don't know how to get rid of, just restore from a backup and you're good to go :)

I have been driving a car for 40 years and never had a smash but that doesn't mean I won't have a smash or I don't take out insurance.

I just hope you backup your computer regularly.

Cheers

Every month I have a "house cleaning" day. Deep scans for virus and malware, registry clean etc. then a complete backup of files and system to external HDD and upload to Mozy Cloud.

Was caught once, not again. Win 8 user.winkwinkwink

My simple solution is I have an image of my basic install on a spare HDD, which has the operating system and all other programs I normally use. All personal files are stored on a portable device.

If my laptop is acting funny I format the HDD and ghost the image from spare HDD update all the software, then re-image it back on to the spare HDD.
