Fake Windows 10 downloads

Be aware there are fake Windows 10 being offered for download, the programs has a ransom bug attached and it will ruin your computer if the ransom is not paid, I found this information on a Govt website. Sorry but that's all I can tell you, just be careful where you download the programs from.

Hope no one gets caught by these grubs.

Fake Windows 10 update leading to ransomware attack: Alert Priority High

Ransomware disguised as an installer of the new Microsoft Windows 10 operating system is encrypting Australian user and business computers.

The ransomware resides in an email that claims to be from Microsoft which offers a free upgrade to Windows 10. The email contains a zip file attachment, which contains a program labelled as the Windows 10 installer. However, if you run this program, it will encrypt any important files, including Word documents and photos on your computer.

If you receive an email offering a free upgrade to Windows 10, we advise that you delete the email and do not open it or any attachments.

Windows users interested in upgrading their computer can register via
Microsofts official website. Windows 10 updates will then be facilitated by a program on your computer, not via an email offer.

Tks, but I was hoping to get to the web site that the OP's info came from. If people are quoting from a web site they should also post a link that takes you to the page (and not just the home page of the organisation.)

It's very worthwhile signing up to this Government website which sends out email notifications about scams etc and details of how to avoid problems on the internet.

There are details re fake windows 10 offers on their website, an email was sent on 4th August with details of this latest scam

Getting a bit precious about this Peter!

All it takes is a Google search, took me all of 10 seconds to come up with the answer, easy.

I would think a thank you to Col/Netco for bringing the matter to your attention rather than a pineapple would be more appropriate.
