Bugger I was going to download Windows 10 until I read that bit of info, I think I will stick with 7 until Microsoft stop providing updates and by then it will be time to get some new hardware anyway.

Me too! I'd much rather make changes manually, and keep notes so that I can reverse any steps if they have unintended consequences. I saw a news article somewhere online (can't remember where, possibly the BBC's web site) with a headline saying something like 'Do you feel you're being herded into upgrading to Windows 10?' These privacy issues seem to answer that question.
