This is a beautiful little free camp. As I said 130k approx from Port Hedland. Has taken me 5 days to get here. Only doing about 20-30k per day between free camps.
So this is Sherlock River, Last night Whim Creek Hotel, night before, Peawah Rest Area, 2 nights before that, Yule River free camp. There is only about 25-30k's between each of these stops. You can see I have been doing it hard, don't know if I can keep up the pace. Loving every minute of it.
Will stay 2 or 3 days here, depending on my water supply which is getting a little low, and then continue my journey South.

Great stuff Sharon, thanks for the pic's and feedback. When you get to Kalbarri area, worth a trip out to Hutt River, cheap camping there too, go in via Binnu on the gt northern hwy, mostly bitumen except for about 14 kms, an experience you won't forget!.....
Sharon - I agree with Weevil (Vic) also and Spice, Hutt River Province is so worth going to - Prince Leonard is a gem, and his son, who runs the Government Office is a terrific fellow. They will show you the little museum they have, very, very interesting. They will tell you the full story of how they came to secede from Australia - for instance, Prince Leonard declared war on Australia three times!!!!!!! Camping is only $5 night, the bit of dirt road in is pretty good, just take it slow. The shower is not flash, but the water is hot, there is a camp kitchen, as well. No power, but an experience - if you have your passport you can get it stamped or buy a visa for $2!!!!! They have their own currency and stamps available as well - and guess what - NO GST!!!!!!!!
If you go to Northampton (nearby town) around the corner on the road to the coast between it and Hutt River, there is an old contract labour "village". used by farmers to "hire" convict labour to work on the farms. Well worth a look.

Northampton Cp pretty cheap too, good clean showers but ok for a night despite being right next to the main road.
Port Gregory (south of Kalbarri on the coast) was shelled by a Japanese submarine during WW2, nobody was killed but a building was damaged. I'm told you can still see a couple of the Jap shell craters somewhere in/near town but I didn't check this out the couple of times I have called in there.
Thanks guys. Golly I have so much to see and do on this West coast. Was just looking at the map between here and Geraldaton, and I have less than a month to get there. MD has to go to the Dr. Glad I am coming back next year.
From Geraldaton down, is going to be amazing, I think I could spend a month around Kalbarri by the sounds of it. Thank you for your tips and places to see and things to do.

Hi there, I'm just below Geraldton at Cliff Head North for a few days, just came from Coronation Beach where I sat out the terrible weather for a week, It rained & was that windy it wasn't really worth going outside. Another good one is Oakabella Homestead only just up the road from Coronation Beach, flushing loos & plenty of hot water for $9 a night, you park in their big grassy paddock, they have great scones & if you wish a Ghost tour of the old homestead.
On the northern approach to Geraldton is a huge roadhouse, cheap fuel prices and also free shower whether you buy fuel or not (I didn't need any, but did buy hot food and nibbles ) I also parked there free overnight, the kerb area on the southern side of the main drive in is a good area or around the back with the road trains out of their way of course.
Thanks Vic. You lot have given me so much to look at and explore I may never surface on the East Coast again. Currently in karratha and will spend a few days exploring this area before moving on again.

No worries Sharon, the gas works museum at Dampier is worth a look, had nice observatory overlooking the works....
Shekon you are travelling so fast we can't catch up with you.
We have had snowy days in Tassie, like fairyland. So much to see but we have a date for next year

I stayed a night or two at that camp spot on my way down WA coast back in 2006-7, nice little spot! I loved the reflections in the river....
