Welcome to the gang Ginge, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I am an ex Avan "Sportliner" traveller but when I sold base camp last year and went on the road full time I decided to upgrade to a full size CV with ensuite. I had many happy times in my Avan though.

Now, as for those lights. I changed all globes to LED globes that I got from Jaycar. Just take the old ones out and put new ones in. Worked great too. Not cheap though.

If you are not confident in doing yourself get a Auto Elec to do the job.

We have a '06 Cruiser and when this happened to me I removed the bulbs and gently squeezed the socket with a pair of pliers to make the bulb a tighter fit. Also cleaned to bulb base and socket with sandpaper. Changing to LED's will not prevent this happening as it's due to corrosion and not a fault of the globe. There is nothing wrong with sticking with the original type. When you replace the bulb in the socket make sure the pins align as some may be offset. Commonsense is all that is needed and females generally have more than males.
To get some background put "cleaning bulb sockets" into Google and check some of the links.

If it is the rear driving, LR signal, and brake lights you mean. Have you considered replacing the whole light unit to dedicated LED tail light units. No bulbs to change then. I have a 2005 cruiseliner, the original units were always full of water after rain or washing. Forever replacing bulbs. Changed them out to LED's no problem since. If you not DIY savvy I would suggest getting a caravan Auto Elec to replace them. Mike

The intermittent operation could also be a result of the "Scotch Lock" style connectors they use in their hundreds all over the van's 12V electrics too. I removed over a dozen from the rear light circuit in our Avan Ray a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I will do what Mike did and change the entire unit. Then there will be no more worries. I will contact an auto elect. Mike, did you source the units yourself? If so, where should I look.

Ginge,
go to eBay (Aust), and type LED tail lights into the search box. You might be amazed at the choice and how cheap they are.

Don't discount being able to do stuff yourself because you're female. There are so many how to's on Youtube these days we can do most stuff that doesn't involve sheer strength. Just a commitment to learning. No shame in going to an auto sparky if you need to though.

I got my tail light units from Martins Trailers in Perth. They available from lots of sources. Ebay etc. Be aware, there is a large square hole in the van ( big enough to allow hand / arm access ) behind each tail lights unit. Make sure you get a similar dimension, size tail light unit to the existing ones to ensure you can cover the hole. You only get what you pay for is still good advice when buying these units. Easy job if you are Diy competant. Get someone to help maybe ?. Mike.
