Good read Rocky. I got my Colorado and Van with all that in mind actually.
That said I still had a problem with the wight of the van being over at the end of the day so had to sit down and work out what I could do without and now all is ok.
I am in the process of going through "stuff" that I carry around in the back of the Collie and found things with a little weight in them that I haven't seen for 10 months so they must really just be "stuff" so out they have gone.

Yes I got that too a really good article
Also a friend is looking at a new ranger and showed me the pamphlet and to my astonishment it actually had the GCM listed there
As they all should, so that made it much easier to explain to him accurately how it all works.

Thanks for the heads up John. I tell you all this "stuff" on weights of vehicles, weights of vans, towing capacities of vehicles (believable or make believe) etc etc makes my head spin. I have put it out there for anybody who has a late model Pajero and who may tow a van with an ATM range of between 2600 to 2900 KGS to let me know if I'm dreaming or not. I need to know if it is feasible before we make a final decision on the purchase of our van.
It is worth noting that the problem with payload is not unique to the utes, MOST of the big 4WD wagons have exactly the same problem, especially once you add little things like bullbars, roof racks, extra spare wheel etc. Many vehicles being used for towing can not afford the weight for fuel, or a passenger.

Towing capacity of our ute 3000kg, weight of our van fully loaded 1500kg. Enough said.
Too many rigs getting around ''loaded to the max & beyond''. Should be pulled up by the authorities for dangerous driving.

Agree great article John.
But I could not find any stats in regards to the Toyota Landcruiser 100 series or the newer 200 series.
Can I assume that the Cruiser would be similar to the Land Rover Discovery??????

Hi, with our Nissan Navara the drivers manual, tow bar and the inside drivers door has referances to weights with a sliding scale as to what on the tow ball and what is your carrying allowances when towing.
what I find interesting is the tare weight for a new model Navara is about 600kgs by memory lighter then the one I have. Ours is a 3000lt. V6 maybe the new small motor is a lot lighter.
