HERVEY BAY

I am after a bit of help as to what we can do in Hervey Bay late August this year as well as the whale watching.

My wife and i are passing thru and can only stay about 3 days.

Thank you in advance as i have been given some great help from this site.

Trip to Fraser Island either in your vehicle if a 4WD or on a commercial tour.

Ditto from me too. You won't be disappointed especially if you've got a 4wd, can I suggest you book a fishermans cottage for 2 or 3 nights as they are cheaper and you have your own cooking facilities. If you go over go froms Inskip point as the ferry is cheaper and the trip each way is only about 10 to 15 minutes.

Cheers

Ashley

For a day trip to Fraser Island suggest the commercial tour. They pick you up at the front gate of the caravan park, take you to the barge at River Heads. The barge also takes vehicles across. You can have a coffee or beer on the barge. On return the bus drops you back at the caravan park gate.

Cost last October was $68 which also included a good sized lunch at the 'Sand Bar.' On our first trip a nice morning tea was set out; on the second trip we had to ask at the coffee shop while the third time we had to ask at the bar and make our own coffee/tea! I think if there is a large group then morning tea will be set out.

A 4WD 'bus' tour around the island costs extra. If the tides are right another good tour is through the mangroves by canoe.

The whale watching is completely different to the Fraser Island trip and we never went on one having seen them out of Merimbula several times. They leave from Uranga - which also has a nice club - the Boat Club. The dining room overlooks the boat harbour/marina.

The RSL Club at Pialba also has great meals.

Hi Russel

As a local for more than 23 years I totally agree with Murray

As we only live a stone trow away from the Boat Club I can recommend the Clubs Caravan Park

what is realy just across the main entrance to the club less than 20 meters I think

also the club has some nice wheels as well and can arrange any trip you want to do around the Bay

The Caravan park can book you to any of the whale watch boats ( they even have there own )

By the time you get to the Bay give us a call we can always have a cuppa some were at the harbour

I send you my phone number by  private message

Regards John

How, Russel,

I agree with above comments but would like to add a small warning.

There is a black cat that gets around the bay and can cause major problems, so don't let the black cat cross your path biggrinbiggrin
