Thats was my thought until I saw an image in the service manual which appeared to have the magnet facing downwards, because I have not seen one installed I only want to install once.
I think the design leaves a lot to be desired, mainly the pivot point attachment.
I have seen complaints on various forums (local and international) about the design as far back as 2009.
Well, according to Dometic, the magnet faces down.

OK, I must say I'm surprised by that. The magnet contacts a switch outside, it doesn't make sense that it's on the bottom. Then again, it's dometic, mine is a thetford.
Oops next time I will read dometic not thetford sorry

Same here, I spoke to Dometic direct and they also sent a installation sheet which has the magnet downwards....they advised to install as per the instructions.
