Battery monitor

Had a brake safe monitor fitted the other day & I am glad to say that it WORKS a TREAT. When we connected the car & van up the alarm sounded plus a red light.

Thought the battery was no good brought another still red light & alarm. Checked the brake safe unit & found a blown fuse so now all good .I don't known how long it has been like that as

I only check the battery now & then as the unit is under the lounge. I am now a convert & believe ALL VANS should have one fitted. The unit cost me $72 delivered  + new 12 pin plug all up $248.

Gday Jeff,

Nice to see a fellow ex serviceman join our ranks, we have a lot in this forum.

I will have a small digital voltmeter fitted inside the tug connected via a connector directly to the battery. As you can see from my previous posts Im changing the batts over to the house batts when this rain (thank goodness for it) stops.

Cheers digger

Hi Phil C
I see that you are in SA so this rule does not apply to you. It only applies here in NSW at the present.

Remote Battery Monitors Laws for NSW

NSW now has the extra legal requirement of a Remote Battery Monitor. The monitor must be visible or audible to the driver and indicate that the breakaway system has a charged battery. The laws apply to all caravans registered in NSW.

Remote monitors to can be purchased separately to suit most existing breakaway systems.

The one I have dose both.

Hi Jeff

I understand that NSW is the only state that insists on this. One of the reasons I am changing my battery is that I am buying a wifi battery monitor that fits on the main batts and reports to my iPhone..

Sounds like a good plan that kills 2 birds with one stone.

Cheers
