We are planning to fit a second battery to the cruiser,and are after any advice concerning the type of isolator which is ok to use ,we're only running a laptop ,chargers and lighting off the battery and a winch once in a blue moon.

There are kits where another battery is on the other side..
From memory that is how the diesels have them..
