I volunteer at the Visitor Information Centre in Yeppoon once a week and have noticed a sizeable increase in the number of nomads (most grey, some not quite) from Victoria, NSW, Tasmania and SA passing through heading north to warmer climes. Heard that one local caravan park (the one that Kath & Dave (Kaid) stay at) is now chockers with nomads after being almost empty a few weeks ago. There are also a few crazy ones heading back south (presumably slowly) on their way home. Sadly there's no free camping in this part of the playground.
Cheers, Joe

That's one reason why I head up here to Townsville around April ish to escape all that. Currently at 9.20am it's 23c, no wind or rain but it did get down to a chilly 15c, no wind or rain over night This time of year here is great weather really.

Wow, guess we would have a snowballs chance of getting in now then.
Never seen it as empty as it was when we were there last.
At least you are keeping off the streets and out of mischief Joe
Loving it in Victoria's Mallee region at the moment. Cold starry nights around the campfire followed by warmish calm sunny days. If it gets a little cool we put a jumper on. There's no such thing as being too cold it's just being under dressed. Got it all to ourselves. Message to Victorians up at ''packed in like sardines land'': Stay up there a bit longer! LOL.

Our land abounds in Natures gifts. Of beauty rich and rare.
When I have been "up north" the locals find a trifle amusing ... "Mexicans" leave "down south" on Mother's Day in May and leave for "down South" on Father's Day in Sept.
Most "Mexicans" find it too hot by mid-Sept.
Cheers - John

Its not crowded out near Sapphire, the free camp is crowded but is only 48hrs, camped in a fossicking ground and it has cost us $3.50 a day and no crowds. Bugga the coastal sardines, give me the wide open spaces.
Stuck at home on the south coast and it's a balmy 14 degrees forecast tomorrow ,even the teens are pulling their jeans right up,jealous of all you lucky buggers up north.
