An one for a PLB

I don't carry one as yet but will be getting one in the near future as I think they are great to have if you venture of the main roads and go bush walking etc.

Ditto. This also the advice we give to naive backpackers who do not appreciate how deserted the outback can be.

for about $300 and something a little bigger than a cigarette packet and light weight - its a necessity, not a luxury !!

We got ours from BFC and carry it in our ute. If we go walking into the bush or where the tracks are ill-defined, we carry it in our little backpack with bottled water and a foil thermal blanket.

This has been discussed often before on this Forum.

Last year two professional truck drivers died in W.A because their vehicles broke down on a remote road, they had no sat phone or PLB - they got out of their vehicle and started walking to try to get to a farm house and died in the attempt. In the case of truckies, all long haul trucks going into more remote areas should be mandated to have a sat ph or PLB with a criminal offence for the truck owner if not in the vehicle

Bought one a couple of months ago, thankfully have not had cause to use it yet.

WE purchased a Kti, as it seems to tick all the boxes that were important to us, plus it is made right here in Australia. I think from memory it was also one of the cheapest.

We have been carrying an EPIRB ever since we began doing long trips into areas where there is no phone signal. It is very cheap insurance for that one time when your life(or someone else's) may be in danger.

For our walks we carry a satphone and we each have a portable uhf.

better to have the capability and never use it than to need it and die because you had nothing.

We have carried one for many years. It is the cheapest life insurance you can buy.
It is not necessary to be in a remote region for a PLB to be useful.
Swerving to miss a kangaroo could put you in the scrub on your side and completely invisible from the highway a few metres away.
If your 'phone does not work and you can't get out of the vehicle due to injury, you are in a lot of trouble that the PLB can solve.
I can imagine many other less obvious applications.

Always carry a KTI PLB, cheap insurance I reckon
