Nullarboor Diesel prices

Hi all,

we are taking a trip from Melbourne to Perth in Early September and wondering if anyone knows the prices of Diesel through the nullarboor? Also best stop off places to fuel up.

We are currently looking and planning the trip, so looking for the best stop off points.

Thanks

Maxx

If you get Wikicamps Fuel Map it will tell you how much fuel is along the route you intend to take. Thats if everyone helps to keep it updated. I do when I fuel up, helps me and others plus you can log your fuel purchases and see what you are get as per litres per 100klms.

Hi Roadtourer,

Have come across the Nullaboor 2 months ago. There are stops every 200k's or so, so not a problem with fuel. Cannot tell you what price I paid as it is a necessary commodity to actually make the crossing. Filled up everytime there was a bowser. From memory I think the dearest I paid was around $1.80plus.

The price of fuel and the amount you get per litre or whatever must be a man thing. ( and I just realised you are not a man if I remember correctly. oops.)  I figure if I don't have fuel I cannot get to the next spot and there are no options for going down the road a bit to get it 2cents cheaper.

My advice, don't worry about your consumption, the price you are going or not going to pay, keep your tank full, fill up every 200k's or so no matter what the amount in your tank is, and enjoy the journey. The Nullaboor is an amazing journey with so much to see and do that fuel comes right down the list of things to think about. Water is probably a more important thing to be concerned about. Not a lot of places to grab water, so make sure you have those tanks filled, and plenty of drinking water. I managed fine with 70litres in my tank, but then there is only me, and I had to use that sparingly. Take a couple of 20litre containers of water with you for washing and doing dishes.

There are plenty of wonderful free camps along the way. Plenty of places where you can have a shower if need be. Get off the main road and explore the coastline villages, and enjoy. Loved it, and if you are watching the road instead of the dashboard you will see the scenery change every 20k's or so.

A wonderful trip. Ohhh yeah the roadhouses all serve the best and biggest hamburgers. Had one of them for lunch every so often and then did not need dinner.

Mundrabilla is usually one of the cheapest, if not the best but it's about 2050 from Melbourne on a total trip of about 3420 Km.
Good luck and travel safe.

Hi Max,

Last September $2.08 for diesel. anywhere from $1.98 - $2.10 Each time we cross on our way to Exmouth WA. Been the same for the pass six years.

We have extra long range tanks fitted. We cross without refuelling, stopping at Nullabor Roadhouse for a break and meal.

Regards Jim & Lambie

plenty of fuel across the nullabour some more expensive that others $2 a liter not unheard of. keep tank full as the next one may be experiencing problems(rare but not unheard of) no power, waiting for tanker if your not in a hurry enjoy the wait usually never longer than a day Mundrabilla usually cheaper but I've come across a few folks that have run out trying to get there because they didn't want to pay a few cents more some where else. Eucla is usually cheaper than border village

We came off the Nullarbor  last Friday. Very minimal wind, the road verge is green and it was raining in places. There is a 100k stretch west of Caiguna that has been graded (sides of road) prior to the rain and very boggy/slushy edges meaning to say keep on the road.

Diesel at Ceduna $1.37, Penong $1.37, Boarder Village $1.84, Eucla $1.72, Caiguna $1.84. At Norseman BP $1.45 and Caltex $1.40. We "Free Camped" at Colona Rest Area, Jilah Rockhole, Woorlba Homestead Rest Area which has "NEW" toilets and Dump Point absolutely first class. We purchased 'water' at the Info centre at Norseman for a donation. Go inside and ask the ladies for a key. If you are coming to Perth via Coolgardie stay at Karalee Rock and Dam about 50klm east of Sothern Cross. 5klm of dirt. Flushing toilet, dump point with water and fire drums cement. One of the best I have seen and is maintained by National Parks/friends with dogs allowed.

Send me an email if you need more info

Your fuel costs can very much be dependant on the wind on your way across if you call at Tourist info at either Norseman or Ceduna they will tell you what the prevailing wind will be, take your time crossing as there are heaps of things to see and tourist centre Ceduna has a great fold out map that details all of the sights on the way across, have a great trip.

If you are into golf, bring a couple old clubs and play the iconic Nullarbor Links.  Get a card from Ceduna or Norseman and play the longest course in the world.

Bring spare (old) balls, the crows love them.

Diesel is about the $2.00 mark across the Nullabor. The Nullabor Village was the most expensive when we went pass. An other issue some may or may not have encountered is that some servo want you to hand in your driver's licence before you fill up, just in case you a runner. We do not support this practice.

In the Pilbara, we found that the practice of showing ID before filling up was in most places. I can understand their concerns with so many people passing through, that would probably never been caught up with if they do a runner. It costs nothing to abide by the rules of each servo.
Most of us are honest, unfortunately there are those amongst us that are not and make it difficult for others. A way of life I guess.

As of 06.00 5/7/15 ago according to fuelmap $1.37 in Cedunato  $1.83-$1.87 for diesel Across the paddock

Beginning at Ceduna, the Aboriginal word "Chedoona" - a place to sit down and rest. Ceduna has shopping, banking and business services and a regional airport. It's 72 km to the next town - Penong. Made up of a roadhouse, general store, post office, Penong Hotel and Caravan Park. You have Mogas on your right just as you come into town ,Shell is on a side street at the next round about to the left and BP is on the road out of town on your left $1.37 for diesel biggrin

Penong to Nundroo - 78 km. Penong is the town of widmills there are dozens of them to supply water for trhe town. there is a Caltex there is open 24hrs .The Nundroo Hotel Motel & Roadhouse has accommodation and take away food. Davis Motors is one of the few places along the Nullarbor providing complete mechanical repairs and a towing service. no info on prices here but normaly pretty close to penong's price.32km to the coast is Fowlers bay, an isolated, defunct whaling station. Facilities are basic, there is a caravan park. and great fishing

Nundroo to Nullarbor - 145 km.in nthis streach you pass the oldYalata road house long time closed also you cross a Grid about 8 ks east of Yalata is the dog fence as you approch the grid you will see the dog fence on your right. Nullarbor Roadhouse has fuel, food and accommodation and is an access point to view the Southern Right Whales.About 14 ks east of the road house is a sign that indicates the eastern end of the Nulabour Plain.then about 3 ks west of the road house is a sign that indicates the western end of the nulubour Plain. This few ks is the only time you actually drive on "The Nullabour" to be geographically correct the rest of the hiway is infact "The Eyer Hiway" Fuel here is $1.84 an is a Mogas servo

Nullarbor to Border Village - 187 km. This is the scenic part of the trip, dotted with lookouts. View the famous Bunda Cliffs. Southern Right Whales can be seen here in their nursery grounds between May and October. the best lookout is 13ks east of boarder Village spectacular I have been passed there over 400 times and never get tiered of the view. Boarber village is a BP servo at the quarantine check point. Quarantine regulations are strict going across the border. You can't take fresh fruit or veges and raw wool ,honey or any bee products into WA. they will search all your cupboards and fridges. Fuel here is $1.84.

Border Town to Eucla - 13km. Eucla has some interesting ruins - the derelict jetty and the old telegraph station. There are also caves around Eucla. The Amber Motel has accommodation rooms & campsites. Fuel, food and basic supplies available in town.Fuel at Eucla is $1.72

Eucla to Mundrabilla - 67 km.from here you drop into the basin via "The Eucla Pass" this is na great section of the hiway you have an escarpment on you right that runs all the way to the Madura Pass I have seen the clouds just sitting on the escarpment like a giant doona. The Mundrabilla Roadhouse which has accommodation, is open 6.30am to 12am. Campsites available. No figgers for Mundrabilla but normally close to Eucla's price

Mundrabilla to Madura - 116 km. 2km west of Madura is a scenic lookout. Expect to see sweeping views of Madura Pass and the Roe Plains. Madura Roadhouse is open 6.30am to 8.30pm There is a Shell servo here no price info :(

Madura to ****lebiddy - 90 km. Deviate to see an Aboriginal mission's stone ruins and some of the Nullarbor Caves. ****lebiddy Roadhouse and The Wedgetail Inn Hotel Motel will provide for your comfort and supplies.as is will all the road houses they all catter for vans and mobile home as well. 12 ks west of ****lebiddy on your right just as you aproch a slight left hand bend in the road there is a parking bay off the back of this bay you will see some tracks these are the tracks to the giant ****lebiddy caves wortha look. There is a BP $1.83

****lebiddy to Caiguna - 64 km. The John Eyre Motel and Caiguna Road House can provide you with accommodation and meals. Campsites also available. This servo is on your left it is at a bend in the road. if you have a CB be on channel 40 and listen to the truckies they will call as they come passed. EG; "westbound by one Caiguna" or Maybe "Eastbound by two Caiguna"  now when you leave the roadhouse say west bound the call from you would be "westbound van leaving Caiguna" this lets any roadtrain doing 100ks know that you are there.as the entry and exits for the roadhouse are on a bend you really need to listen here. also as you leave west bound there is a big brown sign indicating the start of the Longest straight stretch of road in Australia 146.6 kls or as it was known as the 90 mile straight. The BP here is at $1.84

Caiguna to Balladonia - 182 km. . Balladonia has a a population of 9 and a Museum, it is the Sky Lab Museum as this was part of the crash zone so many years ago . A very interesting display. a Hotel Motel & Road House. Camping also available. No info available for here normaly around the same as Caiguna.

Balladonia to Norseman - 192 km. Congratulations, you have crossed the Nullarbor Plain(for 16kls) and the Eyre Hiway for 1400kls Norseman has a population of about 1600 people and as you would expect for a town of this size it has a decent range of facilities. A great place to stop, rest and have a look around the edge of the West Australian Goldfields.Norsman was named after a horse legend has it that "Norsman " stumbled and kicked a rock that happened to be a rather large Gold nugget and the boom was on. . there is a BP on your left as yu come into town Big servo $1.43. and if you turn left towards Espreance there is a Caltex about 400 mtrs doen the road $$1.45.

Hope this helps . sorry it is so long looks like a bloody travel brochure biggrinbiggrin

Cheers
