waeco fridge thermostat

The thermostat on our Waeco HDC 220 fridge has failed. Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement thermostat with out paying half the cost of the fridge. I can't see a Waeco Thermostat being that much more expensive than for other 12v fridges. The registered agent quote to replace I would be better to get a new fridge.

Neil

The thermister has probably just come loose from where it is bonded to the outside of the inner tub.
But do a Search: "waeco thermostat"

If its a Mechanical type thermostat, & a 2 door fridge then it will be a Ranco VT9. Plenty on Ebay for $25 t0 $30. Pays to post a picture of whats on the fridge & where. These thermostats are usualy pretty reliable.VT9 RANCO 2 door fridge thermostat.JPG

I disconnected my Waeco 220 Litre Fridge Thermostat 10 yrs ago and fitted an Electronic LCD Screen type with No More problems like Mechanical Capillary Tube thermostats give.

You can find Cheap electronic types for 12/24/or 240 volt on Ebay now way cheaper than what mine cost back then. It never falters from 3 Degrees Switch off to 5 Degrees switch on No matter what Ambient Temps.

Otherwise as DeBe mentioned you should be able to get a Mechanical on Ebay or any Fridge Technician or Trade Refridgeration Equipment Supplier should be able to supply.

Cheers Kev

Kev,

Thanks for your informative post, I have the same fridge in my 2005 Bushtracker, and am having thermostat issues as well.  I was wondering if you could give some more details of the digital temperature controller you installed, for instance is it all inside the fridge, or installed outside and the probe run inside.  I was just thinking of moisture/condensation issues in the fridge compartment.  The best option I can come up with is either replace it with the Ranco VT9 as suggested, or go the Ebay route with one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351536805829?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT mounted externally and run the temp probe into the fridge somehow.

The electronic thermostat in your link is mounted outside the fridge, just run the sensor in side the fridge. Ive used several of these electronic thermostats on Waecos & Evakool fridges.

That same thermostat is $15 delivered from Hongkong on Ebay, ive used 4 of them on fridges.

Hi
I would like to replace my thermostat in my Waeco 220 fridge with an electronic one. How have others run the wires to the outside?
Thanks
Jeff

Mine was an 80 L Waeco upright, ran the wire through the drain hole at the bottom  back of the fridge
