I have towed my caravan straight to Stanthorpe from Texas a mixture of roads some straights, short ups and downs, a pleasent drive.

Sorry Brickies I have only just got my internet working, unfortunately I don't have it ion my old phone. Thankyou for your advise about Boonah , we plan to head towards there after Stanthorpe. By the sounds of it we can go direct instead of Tenterfield so thanks

From memory, the road is a bit narrow in parts with some short and steep sections, a very pleasant dive though.

Opps. Missed the departure date.
For anyone else interested.
The posted 99kms from Texas I found a joy to drive with the 'van in tow.
All sealed and all types of road. Up, down, bends, straights.
Warning signs about wildlife but traveling late morning,saw none.
Would love to "do" the road without the 'van. Just for the fun of it.

Thanks for all the info great drive from Texas to Stanthorpe good road , no traffic and great scenery. Quite a few dead kangaroos on the side of the road but didn't see a live one

We actually spent the afternoon in Stanthorpe and then moved onto Warwick to check out Queen Mary Falls before heading to Boonah then Sunshine Coast

I came up Cunninghams Gap, with the car trailer full of my tractor implements.

Last Sunday , There are Only 3 sections of 4 lanes . Not real long , but at least

you can get around some trucks & bloody caravans on the downhill run. I went up in

3rd gear , in a 2.5 turbo diesel with 2.5 ton , watching Most of the caravans going Down

the Gap , they were doing mostly 65 to 70. I came down Gibralter Range in 3rd gear ,

doing 65 to 70 feathered th brakes a couple of times & only had to slow a touch for the

35 & 45s on Gib range . Cunninghams is a bit longer on the Down than Gibralter ,

butcorner-wise they are nearly the same , except Cunninghams "opens" up the further down

you get . Gibralter has a couple of 35/45 corners near the bottom . My Opinion.

From Warwick to th top of Cunninghams , you will only need to brake once . At the Toowoomba

turnoff. Then you will have cold brakes to go down Cunninghams . If you have a 4B type tug

& a braked van , I would say "poke down" in 3rd gear , when it starts to open up 8k down then 4th gear

to Aratula , then you are only a bit over 10minutes to Boonah.
