Suburban HWS serviced, now need help..

Hi All, I have carefully fitted a new anode and a new 240 volt electric element after getting rid of all the sludge etc.

Now the gas ignites, burns/roars for a few seconds then goes out!!! Thoughts please?

Aussie Paul. smile

Hi Paul,

Happy birthday BTW, OK I will state the obvious, is the water hot? Do you have enough gas?

I guess you have checked that and I apologise if that sounds condescending however we often miss the obvious.

After that I would suggest the burners may be out of wack..

Cheers mate

You're lucky that you 'fixed' it before I was able to provide advice.

Last time I 'fixed' a Surburban HWS I had replaced the whole unit only to find that the trouble was the regulator blocked up with gunk preventing a volume flow of gas.

Good news is that I now have a good spare HWS in the back shed.

Not a problem Phil, very easy to miss the obvious.

Nope John, not an empty gas bottle, I think air lock after removing the burner to get at the AC element to replace BECAUSE I had emptied the HWS water to remove the anode and plugged 240 to van with the HWS switched on!! Eril had come out and said the power had gone off in the house.. Another $49 error of mine!!!no

Almost half way to Adelaide tonight with the diesel heater idling along nicely. Electric blankets on setting (1) through the inverter as well as the pvr. Eril is catching up on the gardening shows I recorded while she was in Tassie. No TV tonight as I parked under 3 high voltage power lines!!! CPAP will run off inverter as well after I unplug the pvr...

I bought the first bottle of gas today since we bought the van in Dec 2013. Each trip I have something to trial. Laptop is charging off a homemade voltage inverter using a gizmo from Ebay for approx. $6....biggrin

Laptop transformer charger. 12 volt up to 19 volt.
