Nothing about how much they intend to change and what facilities they already or intend to provide like potable water, toilets - or even hot showers if they really intend to wack it price wise to campers.
Why is the Council now charging - are they trying to discourage camping here, or upgrade the place with flat sites, water, toilets that are cleaned daily etc. Given their total revenue grab, the amount of money they will make from this venture will hardly pay the Friday lunch for the Councils CEO.
I wonder how many Grey Nomads will be able to figure out how to pay by using an App? If they start charging, they need to enforce it on all who camp there, which means a daily visit from a Ranger. For those not App savy, surely the Ranger could collect the fees???

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
If you haven't got an Apple they may collect Orange in person . Do you think that $10 may become the user pay fee for low cost camping so they can provide more camping spots .

I'm guessing you may be correct here. Don't know about more spots but with the existing ones I'd like to think a toilet (long drop) and water of some sort (tank from the roof) so you can dump & clean your own port-a-potti was available. And a spot for a campfire.

Yes there must be a cost when I was at Lake Elphinstone a big Tanker Truck pull in got the suction line out and started pumping out the waste storage tanks , I ask him what happen to the waste and he had come in from Mackay to pick the waste up and take it back there to the sewerage works in Mackay to be processed , Someone is paying for this so maybe there need to be a charge to cover this , When we dump in a dump point who pays to process the waste .
Fee was introduced due to the site being abused by grey nomads.
It was a donation requested campground but hardly anyone left any money and the community was left with sizeable water bills from the provided showers/toilets.

Good on ém too many freeloaders around.

I also agree that a charge of $10 for good 'camps' such at St Lawrence and Carmila Beach is not too high a price to pay.
However, be mindful that the reason this action is being taken by the Isaac Regional Council (and many other councils around this great land) is because the greater majority of campers have been too tight-arsed to put a gold coin (or two) in a donation box or spend a bob or two in the village nearby.
I doubt the majority of the so-called "travellers" on the road will even call in there now - just quite possibly drive on to a cramped, bitumen, wayside stop simply because they think it is "their right" be not have to pay anything ... and have the temerity to whinge to the other campers how bad off they are to have to camp at such a forlorn sleep-over.
There many instances causing me to feel ashamed of many I meet on the road.

Last year on our way south from north Queensland We stayed at a free camp at Lake Elphinstone , Then down to Duaringa west of Rockhampton Another free camp which asked for a donation the local Loin club on Saturday morning put on a cheap breakfast for the campers which most partake in this , There were a lest 20 caravan and motorhome there when leaving I fronted to the information centre on site to make a donation most had left when asked how many made a donation the lady said we were the second to do so and this camp had hot showers can you believe some grey nomads are so mean spirited
We camped at Carmila Beach last week for a few days. It is a great spot. We had our own shower/toilet but they do have 2 lots of toilets set at about 100metres from one another. I for one would be happy to pay $10 to keep it open for use and clean. Unfortunately it is such a large camping area the dump point was at over flow point. It was my first experience with having to empty a toilet cassette and it wasn't pleasant. If a fee of $10 would enable more regular cleaning I would happily pay. I was also disgusted how so many campers just leave rubbish around, paper, plastic bottles etc. We cleaned up the rubbish around our site but I am sure there was lots of other stuff elsewhere. The grots are going to spoil it for all.

By the way-re "findacamp" They are not flushing toilets. They are drop toilets- take your own toilet paper. Pets are allowed. And there are no picnic tables.
Many travelers get ''low cost'' camping confused with ''no cost'' camping. Or maybe when they read the sign asking for a donation they have a voluntary ''senior moment''. LOL.
A dishonest caravaners check list: Stolen toilet rolls: Tick. Liquid soap filled up from amenities block: Tick. Nothing placed in donation box: Tick. Overstayed time limit: Tick.
The list goes on, is it any wonder the authorities are clamping down?

Nothing wrong with charging a reasonable fee for use of their facilities. It's the payment method that is dumb if they only take payment via a phone app. Not everyone uses phone apps or likes to use apps from non approved? providers (ie google store or Itunes for the fruity) due to security issues. They need to make payment available through low tech methods as well.

Troopy It would be like most thing that use App it would be only one of methods of payment , Which would not have to use cash , I have been told $10 per caravan or motorhome
We are happy to pay $10 for campsites like St Lawrence, and if the charge means that fewer oxygen thieves will stay there then the extra cost will be worthwhile. The Isaac council also looks after Lake Elphinstone (mentioned above) which is another quality camp. I think this council is doing a great job for grey nomads and all travellers.

I would second that in transit , I was in the area last year when the local complain in the press about the cost the local rate payers of the grey nomads strain on there rate money , Local shop keeper also claim there was not enough money into there tills from the grey nomads stoping the area to cover the cost of offering Free camping , So I think this is good call from the council and not banning camping in the region
