Yesterday and today I have fitted the diesel heater AND it fired up right away.. Now I just have to tidy up all the wiring, plumbing etc!!!! If I had fitted it neatly then it would not have fired up and I would have to undo my neat wiring etc. I think it is a Murphy thing with me!!
In the morning a mate is dropping me a 60mm hole saw to fit the outlet at the end of the bed.

that is the same heater that we fitted in our motorhome. The only problem with them is when they reach the set temperature they take to long to turn back on again . If to go to pinnacle wholesale they sell a digitat temperature controller which just plugs into the loom and you can adjust the temp to anything you want and make it turn on again within a couple of degrees it works in conjunction with the one already fitted
I think it was about $60 . The heaters work very well and use very little diesel hope this helps you Paul
The Planar has 2 Function settings, one is Temperature control where it will get to what it thinks is the temp you want then turns off until it cools. EG, set to 23deg and it will cut off there and not fire up again til around 15deg. Not for me.
The other setting is Power, this means you set it to High or Low power or somewhere in between and it will tick over at that setting until you turn it off.
This is the way we use it, after 10 minutes on high to warm the van up we turn it to low and everything slows to be almost inaudible and keeps the van cosy without the constant stopping and re-starting which is power hungry.
We have a 2KW Belief heater, identical to the Planar.
Cheers.

Ok, didn't get as much done today as I hoped. Some tidying up to be done by next Wednesday when Eril and I are heading Adelaide for some business and possibly a look at some of the southern part of the Flinders Ranges. Last pic is of my voltage and temperature guage.

Paul,it looks good, when I fitted mine I used a "Webasto non-closable with collar rotation" vent, where yours comes out at the end of the bed.
It is flatter than the one that came with the heater and you can redirect the hot air up and away from the floor, some floors can get dis-colored with the heat.
This photo is off the internet
It cost about $32

I do need a little advice. There is a wire (fuel pump wire) that exits from the inlet side of the burner, there is a slit so that the wire becomes external to the inlet hose. Do you run that wire along with the diesel fuel line, or could it be run inside the van and only have the fuel line external? The supply tank is in the front boot.
that is the wires that connect to the fuel pump try and keep the the pump somewhere where you won't here the ticking noise the pump makes eg under the floor I ran the wires clipped to the fuel line
Thanks guys, I had a good run with the internal wiring this arvo, also added the fuel pickup to the 10 ltr jerry. Plan to have the fuel and pump in the front boot along with a spare 10ltr jerry of diesel and 5 ltr genset fuel. Of course there are all the other leads, hoses, cordless drill etc if the front booty as well.
10 litres of diesel would probably last a couple of months or more and I don't reckon you need to carry any spare diesel in your boot
Dragonfly1
I was thinking that Cyril, probably use the same jerry for both jobs.
Hoping not too wet tomorrow to get underneath and do the exterior wiring and plumbing.
I have been running it today while working and it certainly gets hot and smells a bit rubbery when running flat out. I am guessing that will settle down after a while.
How long do reccon it will take to install the heater total, I do all my own installations myself, and is it better with only one outlet or two.
We are getting a Jayco Journey Outback 17.55. Where do you reconmend placement. Our double bed is at the front.
Not shore where the battery is located at this time. How much clearance around the unit does one need. (I'm thinking of the heat generated from the unit itself, because we wanted to put clothing / linen in boxes under the bed.
We are up sizing from our camper. This is our first caravan van. I don't mean to cut in on your topic Paul, I need info as well, rather then staring simular topic.
you should be able to fit one in five or six hours I have two outlets one between the single beds and one in the bathroom which also makes a good drying cabinet can't advise on where to fit yours we have a motorhome
Jim,I put mine under the seat,as i needed all the space under the bed for storage as I have a small van.
The actual heater does not get very hot,so you don't need much clearance around it.I put steel mesh over the top of the wheel arch and covered the section where the heater is and I stack stuff over the top of it. Heater works fine nothing gets hot.
I like the idea of the one in the bath room, however I think the combo shower / toilet in our pop top,( My Lambie would be very ) is a Firbeglass module. Not a good idea to go that way at this stage.
I will seek out a cubby hole space near the wheel arches. the van is a tandum. That way I could have a vent in both directions to warm the van evenly. Yes under our bed has lots of storeage, and want to keep it that way unless, I box it in with a bit of form ply.
Can you tell me how far away from the heater can the Fuel Tank supplied can be mounted. The boot at the front sounds good and out of site. The noise of the fuel pump concerns me as I'm a lite sleeper at the best of times. That has to go on the outside.
I will be crawling all over it total before the tools are put into motion.
I can download the fitting instructions from there Ebay site otherwise.
Hi Hey Jim, Regards to installation of diesel heater in a Jayco Journey if you would like to check out our installation, type in the search section (A Must Have) by Bessie. PS best addition to our van wouldn't be with out it. Regards Bessie.
I have the fuel pump fitted in a small plastic container with a lid on it I then packed a foam sponge all around the pump I cut each end of the box to get pipes and wires in the front boot would be ok for fuel tank
And after spruiking the benefits of our 2kwPlaner heater to all & sundry the bloody thing is playing up now, fires up first time, runs well until it reaches temp but sometimes wont restart when the "house" has cooled down, comes up with code 10 "Ignite fail or flame extinguish protection" so will have to have another look at it.
I suspended the pump on a piece of thick insertion rubber to eliminate the ticking through the chassis, botted securely but no noise as im also a very light sleeper.
Might have to try the digital controller dragonfly1 as the range of temps before restart can make it uncomfortable.
Nothing worse than putting bare feet on a COLD cork floor in the morning!!

The code 10 indicates that it is overheated May be you just need it to cool down you haven't turn off the 12volt power while the heater was still running or in it's cooling down phrase as this is a no no and causes them to overheat
Didn't & wont turn of the power while its running, no voltage drop recorded when it stops, seems ok for a few cycles then faults about 03.00 - 04.00am when its needed most. will take another look at it during the week.
Pinnicles are out of the digital thermostats so I found the same unit on fleabay for 21 bucks delivered, another project for the week.

Thanks for the photo's (Must Have) Was under the bed the best option. I'm thinking of two vents for our new rig. Can't wait to add a few bits here and there. Five and a half months to go till pickup.
How do you like your rig. Have you had any issues to date that we need to note.
Hi Hey Jim, The only problem we had with the van was the 5 months wait as well LOL as you will find out. Yes to the heater it seems to be the most practical place to install, the one vent for us is perfect, we have placed the on/off switch next to the bed light. In this position the whole unit is very easy to install. As for the van, we have so far clocked up 8000 km without any problems at all, and it tows like a dream. Very happy with our Journey Outback as i am sure you will be to. Regards Graham & Bessie.
When considering the installation position don't overlook the fact that there is a 150(??)mm dia hole to be bored through the floor of the caravan. Make sure there is no framework or piping under the floor in that chosen spot.
Cheers Neil
