We recently 2 weeks ago travelled from Windorah to Birdsville and the road was good it is sealed from Windorah to the turn off then for the next approx 20 k. The unsealed section to Betoota was in good condition we towed a 21 ft van with no problems. The road into Birdsville was also good . We travelled at approx 70 kph . The road out to Big Red should be ok as they the big bash will be out there on the 7 July so I expect it may be recently graded but with traffic it's unknown. When we went out I wouldn't tow my van due to corrigations but it may be ok now as the big bash and races are not far away.
The road to Bedourie is average and the road from there to Boulia is ok. But once again with two gigs happening soon
It may have been regraded. The pub will give some info on the road conditions.
If go out through Boulia make a stop at the Middleton pub it's unreal 139 years old.
Have a great trip we did. We did not suffer any damage to our caravan so you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for your info Dreamcatcher. We loved the drive to Boulia, amazing countryside and history. Travel safely.

Thanks friends for that Q & A .. we're heading that way for July via Carnarvon Gorge, Barcaldine, Winton, Boulia Camel Races, Birdsville then diddle-daddling home...  route

undecided as yet.

Hello Dreamcatcher,

I am new to caravanning and am yet to purchase our first van and tow vehicle.  Could you please tell me if your caravan is an Off-Road caravan?  My wife and I are looking to travel to outback pubs, tracks and sites and are after a comfortable holiday caravanning experience off the black top. One which the van and car will last the journey.   Dirt roads and pot holes are Ok.  Though I have missgivings about corrugations.  We will be travelling with two pugs who do not know the word discomfort.
