Chris,
You will be fine with a Jayco Dove, but it's not about so much kw power as also weight of tow vehicle, so many vanners have BT50'S , D-MAX'S etc, and have 3 tonne behind them, there are many photos of twin cab utes with broken backs, little SUV'S have power but no weight, and this is how people come to grief, I am a great believer that tow vehicle should be 75% in weight of the thing it is towing, cheers
1.6 is too small .You would be peddling it so hard fuel economy wouldn't be better than 3 litre . When towing..
. Box or wagon type body is stronger ..

Unless one has a whiz-bang tow vehicle and a van with all the safety thingys, I was told to tow no more than 85% of the weight of the filly laden vehicle. If you have a 2000kg vehicle fully loaded, then what you are towing should not exceed 1700kg. My Falcon has a GVM of 2240kg, so I should never pull more than 1900kg regardless of what the tow-ball & towing capacities of you vehicle & hitch are.
I had a 2006 Xtrail auto petrol which I pulled a small Jayco Feather pop top and also an Avan Aliner camper trailer with for a number of years including around Oz and it did it well. I do not know about the current Xtrail though. Can't remember what the spec's were. When towing I used about 14 litres per 100 kms.
