Allan, we towed a 2.5t van with a 3.2l diesel Pajero and fuel economy was pathetic at best. 25 - 29 litres/100km across the Nullabor. Best was 18/100 behind a road train making use of slip stream. Swapped the Paj for a 200 series Landcruiser 4.5l diesel, across the Nullabor 16.5l @ a true 95 kph.
Maybe the Triton is newer and may have updated technology. These are our figures and unlike some, I am happy to criticise a vehicle that I own if it is crap.
I am sure you will get some contradictions to what I have mentioned.

No first hand experience but the experienced mechanic that services our current Navara & previous Ranger has a Triton & reckons that his is incredibly thirsty in all facets, onroad, off road & when towing.
Looking at the power & torque figures that the smallish engine produces it must be fairly highly tuned which would explain the high fuel consumption. We thought about buying one but were put off by other forums saying that they were soft in the rear end because of the large overhang from the rear axle.

Got a 2011 duel cab Triton that uses more fuel than my Coaster motorhome, and that's without anything on the tow ball. Tow anything over 750kg & the fuel consumption goes from 11.5lts per hundred up to 18-23lts per hundred depending on the load. Its been back to Mitsi many times to "upgrade" the injection programing without much joy. Its noisy, uncomfortable & not much of a four wheel drive either, give me anything to tow a van would be an improvement over this. Current model Triton tray back work ute is a slight improvement over my duel cab, maybe the latest model might have solved the many problems with the EGR system. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it has a very good heater, not that it gets much use in the NT. I have had Cruisers, Hilux's & an assortment of Holden/Izuzu's that were much better than the Triton.

I'm a little puzzled by some of the previous posts, but I do have experience with a Triton. Not the size or weight you ask about but as a guide this from a previous post - here

Ours is a 2013 2.5Lt diesel 4x4 Auto.

I've finally gone far enough towing our Pop Top van to work out the fuel milage. Towing a 1.7t Pop Top van with the back of the ute loaded as well, from south of Adelaide to Quorn returned 12.9Lt/100km.

Perhaps in a few months I could give you an exact answer, but for now this is all I got biggrin

We have a 2011challanger,2.5 ti motor,(same as 2011 triton). 18k to Broome and back with 2.1t behind, worst fuel consumption was 15.1 lt per 100 k,best was 12.2 per 100k. If you know NSW we can do Mt Vic in 2nd ( feathering the throttle & out of Sofala the same).
Probably as steep as anywhere on main roads in Aus. We would have another one unless we bought a bigger van!
