Travel straps for TV

Hi fellow travellers

How do you secure your Caravan TV for travelling?

We own a Jayco and were told to store our TV in the box when travelling, but when we watched the DVD that came with the van it shows the TV being secured with straps for travelling. Our local dealer didn't know about these. Any ideas please?

How, Koko.

I would never travel with my TV on the bracket. Recipe for the bracket to brake off the wall. I always take TV off and put under doona on bed while travelling, much safer. In no time at all it is back up on the bracket and firing on all fours.

We put our TV in bed when we are on the move , The base sit nicely between the wall and mattress pull the covers over it and place the pillows back in place always in the same place when we arrive sound asleep

Gday...

I guess I am a bit lucky in that I have a cupboard on the floor of the van of sufficient size that holds the TV in its original box, including the polystyrene moulded supports, standing up - as they should ideally be transported standing vertical. I carry the spare pillows in the same cupboard which also make for good packing for the box.

It has travelled like this for over six years now ... and hasn't even got a scratch let alone any other 'problem'.

As previously said by others, I would definitely NOT want to have the TV connected/attached to the wall bracket while travelling, no matter how well 'supported' - so much weight on the end of an arm attached to the wall with bolts/screws must be in jeopardy. I doubt, unless the manufacturer was better than the majority of the builders, it would not take long to rip off the wallcry

cheers - and safe TV travel - John

I have a Spacedec Tv/Computer monitor type swivelling/pivoting bracket so when travelling the TV is twisted around and seated Face first against the wall between upper and lower retaining strips. It is held face first against the wall with an Occy strap and has been in this position for 10 yrs without a problem. I copied this from what I saw in a Bushtracker Caravan. It is not a cheap bracket by any means but for where I wanted to fit the TV and use, then it was the only type available. There are now heaps of different types of brackets available.
Cheers Kev.

We just take it off the bracket and put on our bed , and it hasn't moved even on dirt roads.

Being doing this for the past 2.5 years, and we have had on problems at all.

I didn't like to travel with the TV on its bracket disbelief
Plus
our mattress wanted to wander off the bed when we traveleddisbelief
Plus
our table sat on a single center pole and I didn't like to travel with it acting like a pendulum.disbelief
Solution
Put the TV face down on the (made) bed, put the table top along side of it (Fiamma bracket up). Hook one end of ratchet strap to the bed frame under one side with the other end hooked onto the frame under the other side. Gently do up the strap until it was all snug. The mattress, TV and Table top never moved after that (NOTE: put a towel, thong (flip flop for you foreigners wink) or something to protect and edges under the metal bits of the ratchet) biggrinbiggrin

We have a low 1/2 cupboard in one corner of the bedroom.

I made a swivel base & attached the TV stand to that.

As a precaution I used a wire cable from the top of the TV to the wall to restrain it (perhaps) if it did break away.

Been like that for over a decade.  Just replace the set as technology changes.

Not a fan of the wall brackets & fortunately have the option to go for the swivel stand set up.

We use an after market swivel bracket from Dick Smiths.
The wall end of the bracket is bolted through a cupboard frame.
When traveling the TV is swung flat to the wall.
Foam rubber is between the wall & TV and another piece of foam covers the screen.
Across the screen is a flat bungie strap that is hooked to the wall by 2 stainless steel saddle brackets.
Very safe & secure in my mind, been traveling for a year like that.

Ours rides screen up on the bed when travelling.  Never moves.

I think it is only Plasma tvs that must always ride upright.

Cheers Neil.

<edit. for bad spelling.
