Dometic Ebespacher 12v D2 Diesel Heater

Is your Diesel Heater noisy ??? Mine seems to be loud inside Motorhome , hard to get to sleep with it on and the noise from the exhaust out the back of Motorhome , I wouldn't like to be camped next to me . How's yours.

Cheers

Mick

Love mine to bits. Tis noisy on start up, maybe 5 minutes, but no one has ever complained, even when I've asked them to listen out for it. Ticks along quietly at night, but only ever run it all night once

Has exhaust , factory fitted , yes it's noisy on start up and noise does settle down but still a little annoying . It works well heating the motorhome in minutes, still wouldn't liked to be camped next to me.

Not diesel but mine is gas and don't let anyone tell you they are quiet. Not that noisy, just the fan really and it is not noticed after about 15 mins anyway so doesn't bother me. They are good though!

More noise at start-up and from diesel air intake outside than inside the van, exhaust has a muffler. You can buy a muffler for the air intake if you think it is needed.
To begin with mine was noisy even after it reached temperature setting. I spoke to Dometic and they told me that sometimes the jubilee clamp around the warm air outlet on the heater unit is found to be tightened too much which causes the housing to be squashed and touching the fan blades hence the very similar noise. So I slackened the jubilee clamp off a bit and since then once temperature setting is reached I can hardly hear it at all from inside the van. I fitted the pump and tank at the back of the van away from the bed, so no pump ticking noise either, which alot complain about. I also fitted a filter made of pot scrubber pad ( plastic coated wire pad type) fitted it as an air intake to keep my dogs hair and anything else from getting into the heater unit.
Best option on the van, "happy wife happy life" even if its only for a short time, till the next time!

Thanks Moonraker , I will look into your suggestion with the jubilee clamp. Unfortunately ours was factory fitted under our bed at the back of the Motorhome and the exhaust out the back is close by also. Should explain that we have a raised floor , so it's not directly under bed . Tell me where is your air intake situated. Yes have to agree happy wife happy life.
Thanks
Mick

Hi Mick,
My diesel heater is located in a cupbourd under the fridge freeze. The air intake pipe is directly under this cupboard and behind the rear offside wheel. The exhaust pipe runs along the chassis rail a short distance to the back of the caravan. The bed being at the front of the van there's no noise once the heater reaches temperature, just a few minutes. I get more noise from the air intake than the exhaust as the exhaust has a muffler on it and the pipe is longer. I have twin outlet vents one comes out a seat toward the bed the other vent is in the bathroom.
I have asked a few other vaners parked next to us if they had a problem with the startup noise all said no and one included that his was the same so wouldn't complain about mine knowing it was only noise for about 5 minutes.
Cheers
Nigel

Our inlet is up the front behind drivers seat where opposite end to our sleeping area..
They run faster ( our does) on start up till it reaches temp you have set it at..
Then fan slows down to very quiet operation .

After reading about "air intake noise" I fitted the room air intake inside the storage area under the bed with the water pumps & HWS, it has a vent grill into the house area to allow airflow & is very quiet. The outlet is at the front of the bed at floor level & after the 5 minute warm up is no louder than the compressor fridge, barely noticeable. The bonus of that location is when you get out of bed in the middle of the night the floor is warm on the feet.
The exhaust is routed to the rear of the bus with no muffler fitted & is very quiet after the first couple of minutes. The kids usually sleep in a tent nearby & have never complained about the noise. I did fit an air cleaner to the burner intake as I was concerned about the amount of dust it might ingest as we spend most of our trips off road, the cleaner was from a small air compressor & works very well.
Being the cheaper Snugger diesel heater I thought we would have more noise issues, not the case it seems.
