Coming into Charters Towers today about 10km out.. 110kmph down to 80kmph then 60kmph.. suddenly coppers everywhere on both sides of the road... sent them a friendly wave, past them and speed limit back to 110kmph... first time I've seen road signs forcing you to slow down so they can get you for speeding only to put speed limit back up once past!
Did the same yesterday on the Warrego highway near Oakey - pulled every 5th car up for a licence check. Apparently they have been ordered to have a high presence till after the holiday weekend to improve road safety. Most will be working long weerkend but won't worry us safe drivers eh!
Good Luck.
Make it quick Marj as many local's might head out there for the weekend.
Are you heading Townsville way at all in the near future ?
In the next two to three weeks Doug. Will make contact when I do.
Doubt if many will make for Fletchers Creek this year. No water will turn them off. But the area is huge and I'm happy to go way over the back away from the crowing roosters at 2 am.
How many times do we see posts on this, an other forums, about bad drivers and unsafe actions.
Yet as soon as the police are on the road doing something about it it we have accusations of revenue raising, no balls and so on.
Some of you people would be the first to run crying to the police if something happened to you.
Let them do their job without halfwit comments.

Hi
Yea fully agree. Get a bloody life you lot !!
I drove into Charters Towers the day before yesterday or perhaps the day before ? and stuck to the speed signs as I saw them and did not notice any problems with cops or revenue raising or any thing else. I did see some cops somewhere but they waved me on. I would be happy to show my licence and blow in the tube if asked. After all the cops are there for my benefit and I have always had a positive relationship with them, even if sometimes an individual is less than I might wish for. Same goes for Grey Nomads too.
If I have a problem with the speed signs in Qld, it is that they do not repeat the signs much so if you miss one then it is a while before you see the next one. I note the speed goes down if there is an intersection or a rail line or other hazard, and that seems reasonable There is always a second opinion on the GPS but not always accurate.
We have the utmost respect for our boys and girls in blue. We always adhere to the speed limit! Just made a comment that we haven't seen that before and everyone gets on the band wagon bagging out the cops. Come on people!
it's funny......( not actually ) folks lambast the law enforcers......yet same folks call the coppers as soon as those folks are on the receiving end of a law breaker......duh
