The Journey Continues But.

G'Day all,

We toddled our way to Mt Isa and spent an enjoyable time at the Sunset C.P.

Travelled down to Kyuna, then to Ilfracombe C.P. This is a nice park wjth plenty of in house activities

but they really squish you in. Car parking space is very small. We then went to Tambo and stayed at the old CP.

$25 pn and watched the polocross championships. We then headed for Mitchel land just nth of Augathella blew a tyre

on the van. Pulled onto the verge which was anything but level. Managed to change the tyre using 2 jacks. Just finished

the whole thing when a couple towing a van turned back to see if they could help. This was very nice of them and we were really

grateful that they took the time to see if all was well. We thanked them profusely and they turned back to head Nth.

So we continued to Roma, booked in at the BIg Rig C.P. and the next day went to the Goodyear Tyre store and had the

damaged tyre replaced, and said that we would go back to the park and change the spare for the new one and bring the spare up

to get a new tyre fitted as it was very old and a slightly different size. They said don't do that we'll send one of our fellas

round and he'll change it over for you and bring the spare back we'll change it and he'll bring it back and refit it on the van.

That's what they did, I thought that was great service and at no charge. The "But", put the car in for service, having rung the booking in

4 days in advance, all went well until they found they didn't have a particular part, they did try all the mechanical workshops around

to source the part to no avail. They have ordered the part from Sydney and won't arrive till Monday,so we have had to extend our stay in Roma

until next Wednesday, the C.P. were very good and managed to swap bookings around so all was well there. So we are on Shankses(?)

Pony until the repairs are completed. We now have to change our destinations from here on, which isn't too difficult as we only think

a couple of stops ahead and they're not set in concrete.

End of feeling sorry for oneself.nosmile Regardless the journey has been great.smilesmile

G'day guys sorry to hear about the troubles you have experienced but it's good to see that country folk still provide a high quality of customer service and Roma is not a bad place to be spending a couple of days just think of the benefits shankses pony means extra exercise plus all the things you will see in Roma that you might have missed.

Just a pity that the standard of customer service you received in Roma isn't available in our major cities. Hope you continue to have a great trip out there in the big playground.

You're lucky you weren't in Mackay Qld. The service here is non existent. Been like that for 40yrs so suppose no hope for the future. The country and small towns are great.
Enjoy the remainder of your hol.

Thanks Aussietraveller andGandk,

We are very lucky. We had a phone call to say that Black Toyota had requested the supplier

to airfreight the part and they have said yes.smile So now we could have the car back by Friday night

or Saturday morning. They let us into the workshop to get some stuff out of the car.

This is really great service from Black Toyota Roma.smilesmilesmilesmile What with them and the Goodyear people

both going out of their way to provide great service, We're really  happy chappy/chappette.

The journey continues.smilesmilesmile

What is the part that they didn't have to complete a service on your car that makes it undriveable ?

G'Day Bill B,

The service required the timing belt to be changed, the manual didn't show that

there was a tensioning belt that needed replacing as well. They found that out a

after they'd pulled it all apart. There was no guarantee that using the old tensioner

would last until I got home, and then  I'd have to get it replaced, so I thought get it done

now and be safe.

No probs Bill B,

Being unfamilliar with modern motors I have to go with the experts. I was reasobly good with the Austin 12

and the Hillman Husky Wagon, could even handle the HR Holden. I look under a bonnet now and can recognise

a motor. Pick it up in the morning, all being well.
