Can you help me. We are trying to rid the red, off our camper. Groundin Red bull dust on the draw bar.
I'm detailing the camper, so I can put it up for sale. We did a Circle back in 2008 across the cape / down through Mt Tom Price ( Iron Ore ) back through WA to Sydney. I put the Gernie over it back then. But the red dirt is still part of out camper.
Its now been parked, in my cave, (our Cave) for 7 years. Lambie says its got to go. To make way for HER Van.... HER VAN................ Yes dear,( Our Van.) Happy wife Happy Life.( Blood... y Toilet /Shower) Oh ,how the years catch up.
WHAT me,............. Coming up to 60 Years old. GET OFF..........................HELPPPP. Please. Under the Thumb. Kissie kissie Lambie Love U.
Well the red dirt came off the front stone deflectors with 1. OVEN CLEANER. Step 2. RUBBED AND SCRUBED.3. Hit it with the Gernie. TOTAL = Mud flaps look ok.
The frame Rubbed and scrubed with scotch bright + gernie.
Its like the exposed metal, has been (sand blasted) with red dirt. Other wise looks the goods. Still not happy JIM.
All the S/Steel kitchen etc. like it was made yesterday.
Jim, you now need to paint the chassis members with something like silver frost paint. There are a few similar zinc loaded paints that would be suitable, See your friendly paint store.

Its a Kimberley Camper with all the bells & whistles Plus.
Its fully Galvinised Doesn't need painting. No rust, Almost showroom condition 2002 model. Has been sitting in the cave since 2008 gathering dust, after a three month trip around the block.
Someone is going to get a ripper camper. we used it four times. three of those over 10 -12 day trips when our to kids were at School. A younger couple will pick it up. and do their thing. New ones are over the top. My work has stopped us,
from the play field.
We are Retiring next year and the wife needs the extra's. Lambie had a big operation so we are going for the van.
Hey Jim, same plans same story. I sold my van, no red dust. With all these extras the van just gets longer and longer. Its good to know there are others who have the same dilemma.

Hey Jim, the problem is that the dust isn't on the gal... it's in it. The gal coating is porous and that dust is so fine that it gets into the microscopic holes in the surface, so you can't wash it off, you need something that will get in and dissolve it. You could try using an organic acid like oxalic acid which you can get from Bunnings, it's sold as 'Intergrain Reviva'. Other than that, PeterD's suggestion of painting over it might be the only solution.
