Power converter/charger

Hi Techies, I'm seeking advice regarding possible replacement and / or repair of a blown Elixir Power converter / charger ELX-35-240. The unit is fitted in our 2008 Forrest River 5th wheeler and manages the DC electrical system and the 240 volt system. These units are no longer manufactured by Elixir Industries. Any suggestions?

Hi Surfer and welcome to the forum.

From what I have read this unit is a 240V (Australian power points) to 12 volt unit, it has multiple functions including a battery charger etc.

I am very much of the opinion that there should be an Australian replacement that will do the job adequately for you.

My suggestion is head off to an caravan specialist electrician or manufacturer and get some specialist advice, there was a direct replacement unit on ebay some time ago, but it has gone.

Please try for a direct replacement first, then an alternative. The alternative may not fit in the space the elixir fitted.

Good luck
Cheers

Be very careful if buying a USA converter that claims to be a 240 volt unit.

In the US they wire up their 120 volt systems to provide them with a 240v supply. Something akin to a three phase supply we would use to get 415v supply here.
To the best of my knowledge their 240v systems would not work in Australia.
