Bushfire ADVICE for people travelling along the Gibb River-Kalumburu Road,

Tuesday 12 May 2015 - 4:51 PM

A bushfire ADVICE remains in place for people travelling along the Gibb River-Kalumburu Road, near the intersection of the Port Warrender Road, in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley.

Arrangements are underway to relocate travellers from private campsites in the Mitchell Plateau area.
There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area.
Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.
The fire is burning in bushland west of the Gibb River-Kalumburu Road, north of the Port Warrender Road, and is burning on the western side of the King Edward River.

ROAD CLOSURES:
Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site.
The Port Warrender Road is closed west of the Kind Edwards River campsite.
Road information may also be available from the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley.

RECREATION SITE CLOSURES:
The Mitchell River National Park is closed.
People wishing to enter the area can progress no further than the King River Campsite.
