hi all, we are new to this site, so hope we are doing things correctly. We are about to travel the Gibb river rd. etc. Has anyone travelled the Mitchell falls rd. this season?

As no one has come back to you maybe put it in the general section, more people look in there.
The road to the Mitchell Falls only opened less than 2 weeks ago, so not many have ventured in there yet this season. That being the case though, it will never be better than now.
This is what it looked like when we first visited in 1999.
And this is the King Edward River crossing. The earlier you go, the deeper the river crossings and the better the waterfalls.
Cheers, Peter

Thanks to those who replied. We have since travelled this road. For those going out there, the road is extremely corrugated but quite passable. Travel slowly, at times we were travelling at 20kph, let your tires down and you shouldn't have too many problems. We came across some with broken axles, and bits falling off vehicles. We however came through without a problem. It took us 2.5 hrs rom king Edward river to Mitchell falls camp ground. Good luck.
The Mitchell Falls road usually has long sections of hard corrugations - from memory, mostly on the bauxite type country.
It is really important to take it carefully, as many of the sharp corners do not have warning signs at all. The camber on some of those corners is not great, either.
Every season there are a number of accidents and breakdowns on this road. I believe that most of these would not have happened if people were driving to the conditions.
You really cannot do justice to the Falls and the interesting track in if you are time pressured by trying to do it as a day trip from a King Edward River camp. Need to camp at the falls campground. Day trippers are pressured to drive too fast, as well.
