Shoes

This is a question that is nothing to do with caravanning, what was the little steel peanut shaped plate that was tacked on to the heels and the toes of your shoes called? They had about eight holes in them where the tacks held them on,can any old tackers like myself remember.

The metal wear tips were simply called "Toe or Heel tips". When we were kids our parents used to have them put on our shoes simply to prevent wear - shoes were a luxury back then.
If you put them on your shoes, you will definitely cause damage to your Van/motorhome floors.
If your shoes are wearing unevenly at heels it is most probably caused by posture problems which could be caused by physical problems with spine, etc - most of these can be corrected with orthopedic footwear.

My father used to fit them to my shoes when I was at school, they were dangerous, walking on concrete footpaths and stairways, they were very slippery.I used to know them as Toe and Heel Caps..............................cheers Peter

Geez, how much fun was it watching new recruits at the mess, walking to their table, with their hands full of plates and cups, and suddenly the deadly heel and toe plates on their hob nailed boots caused them to be skating on ice. Well it's funny after it has happened to you and then you get to see someone else do the same thing.

Geez ,it might have been fun then, but imagine it now ,those who slip over would probably break a hip, leg, arm,a few ribs or all of that. AAHH what it was to be young........cheers Peter

And do you remember what great sparks they made if you dragged your heels on the ground as you went down the road on your bike.

Also they were nailed to the heel and toe with sharp tacks which gradually dropped off and ended up in bike tyres or barefoot kids.
