Which awning?

I'm looking at awnings for my Mazda T3500, so far the Fiamma 45s 4m looks the goods to me. Any other suggestions/recommendations before I shell out that much coin?

Hi Guys

I also have a Fiamma 45TIL and they are great. We also brought a Fiamma Clip system, this is a very well engineered anti flap system (approx $380)along with that we purchased a privacy screen which is brilliant but when we tried to get privacy screens for the ends there was only one manufacturer and they where far to expensive so we brought cheapies and had them modified to fit to the Fiamma Clip System.

All up a very good system and damn simple.

Thanks Peter, I'll look into the anti flap kit, sounds like a worthwhile investment.

We have an Aussie Traveler Sundowner (sun something anyway) with and anti flap kit and two bowed rafters and I reckon its fantasic. I've helped people with other types (mainly Dometics) and I grateful I have the AT. Its easy to use, strong in the face of some heavy winds and easy to put out and put back in.

Regards

Dave

Thanks Dave, I had a look at the Aussie Traveller and it is a great awning. I'm still researching all the options but due to the nature of the side of the T3500 bus I think the roll out awnings like the AT, Dometic and Carefree are going to be unsuitable, mainly because of the frame that folds back against the walls for travelling. I'm leaning towards the Fiamma wind out again, even though it's not as sturdy as the roll out ones it's the most practical to install and deploy for me.

It'll be a few weeks at least until I'm ready to buy, so I'll keep weighing up all the pros and cons.

I had a cheap bloody thing that got all stretched out of shape in the recent storms. Lucky insurance covered it and I did not go back to the bloke who installed it. The bloke at place I am going to recommended Dometic

We went a bet "each way" Got a Carefree on one side of the bus & a Fiamma 45 on the other side. both have their pro's & con's. De-flapper kits were the best investment on both. Advantage of the Fiamma was it's out of the sun when stored, our last bus had a Carefree that showed signs of damage from the sun, this one has a cover when stored.
Arm's on the side of the bus were never an issue unless it wasn't packed up properly, a distinctive rattle when travelling was the first clue.

What kind of bus do you have? I have a Mazda T3500 and I'm looking into the possibility of getting curved/angled arms to suit, that way I might still be able to get a roll out awning, which I would prefer for the rigidity.

Both the old & new bus are Toyota Coasters & yes they are a curved arm on the lower section. Arms sit about 25mm away from the side when stored.

Trying to find a photo for you.

Nice one, thanks for that. I've seen an awning with arms that were curved top and bottom which suits the Mazda bus better but I don't know if it was a Dometic, Carefree or Aussie Traveller. I think I might contact those 3 manufacturers and see if they have a hardware kit specifically designed for the Mazda.

HI Steve

Which awning did you eventually purchase?

Now a couple of years down the track how have you found it?
