Ford Towbars

has anyone else had a problem with the Ford ranger towbar. The towing spigot where it fits in has stretched the surrounding RHS. We are on our 1st trip and have found this problem and at the moment I feel like crying my eyes out . We have done so much research on the car and van before we bought them to now be faced with this problem. We are traveling with friends and at the moment we are at Mitchell Qld heading to Mt Isa. Any help appreciated

hello dizzy10
What model ranger do you have??
I have the PX 2012 model and no problems with the towbar at all, IMO could not damage it if I tried

Dizzy, do you have warranty on the vehicle? I would be going to a Ford dealer and ask explanations.

Yep may need tightening ? Definitely needs inspection ..
As said under warranty .. Get them to check.. Any issues latter ?
It's covered..

I have a 2013 BT50 (the Mazda equivalent of the Ford Ranger) with a 3.5 tonne Hayman Reece towbar fitted and dragging around a van weighing a little over 3 tonne and have not experienced anything like what you have described. The only problem I have seen with the towbars on these vehicles resulted from the mechanic failing to notice that some of the bolts on the towbar had fallen out and the chassis rail was damaged (all fixed under warranty).

Regards

Dave

I'm not sure that I understand you correctly....are you saying the tow ball receiver is loose ? If so, they are supposed to be, when not towing, you tighten the small bolt underneath to stop it rattling.

Hi

sorry for the delay but here are some photo's to show what is wrong with the tow bars. Ford have not wanted to know us, we were left stranded for 2 weeks waiting for a re-placement (not a ford 1). with no help from Ford at all.P1000428.JPGP1000429.JPGP1000430.JPGP1000427.JPGP1000431.JPG

To say I think Ford stinks is an under statement

IMHO the 90mm depth of the receiver may be an issue. As a comparison ours is about 180mm deep (not bragging just an observation all) and about the same thickness of material.

May be imported steel in towbar. I know when I'm welding imported steel, as it welds erratically and can have large pools of impurities and splatters at times.

Hope the problem is fixed with new one.

Cheers Baz

Sorry but some info is missing - nowhere has it been said if the Ranger towbar is a genuine Ford towbar with a Ford compliance plate which was fitted when the vehicle was purchased new.
Otherwise it's quite unfair to blame Ford.

ps...latest news Toowoomba Southern Cross Ford have gone bust and 200 out of work.

Good Luck.

Gday...

cry cry does that include Southern Cross Land Rover too ? .... they were within the same "motor group"

They are one of the "good" Land Rover dealers hmm

edit: forget those questions. Just found this ... and it seems the 200 jobs are safe too -
