How many Lts of water per minute does the shower

Hi again,

How many liters does the average shower use per minute in your van.hmm

Our new snail has 2 x 82 liter tanks. lambie wants her shower. The way she likes to use the shower we might need to refill in each country town. (Joke) I hope the shower rose is small.biggrin

I might get a tub every Saturday night, if I beat her to it!

I might just turn the gas off and that will get her moving eh!smile

Hey Jim

Hey Jim

Get a Bucket, and a Watch.

Switch the shower on and put the bucket under it to collect the water for 1 minute.

After one minute switch off and measure how much water is in the bucket.

Multiply the ammount of water,  by how many minutes the average shower takes.

Great idea Elliemike....I learnt to take extremely quick yet effective showers when tenting and prospecting in the donga...a wash is essential to maintain general well being in the bush IMO......I use a Coleman Gas HWS with one of those folding plastic water holders in my small shower tent..when you can see the job you have to do, and the amount of water your expending..you learn to piece meal each job on your body..lol...quickly but effectively...all the while watching your very limited supply disappearing/diminishing...

The last thing one wants is to still have soap or shampoo on, and no water in your shower tent...it teaches one to be reasonable but super quick with washing expectations....the moral?....I can have complete wash, hair included, with only one of those folding plastic water holders and in fact I now leave water in there..and I'm finished way ahead of time....
Now when I wash in my van its a breeze to do the job with very little water use..I have 2 x 90 litres....the shower/ablutions 90 litre tank is more than adequate between extended refills.....
But if you stand and navel-gaze under the hot water and use a shower to wake you up then 90 litres will barely cover it!..lol......good question.......Hoo Roo

I have got my showers down to 6lts without washing hair, just rinsing.

It's funny really as when we lived in houses etc we referred to how many minutes, now we are relying on tanks in vans or similar we refer to litre's.

More than likely like most here I quickly wet down, turn tap off, soap up then quickly rinse off.

Agreed Doug...6 lts for a complete wash and three pieces of toilet paper..one up, one down and one to shine...we GN's are a frugal lot are we not?...my dog never complains about my hygiene....lol..

A photo is worth a thousand words Doug, what about one of your wet down/soap up ..just so we get it precisely right....you've got the panorama feature on your camera...so you should fit it all in the photo....dried arrangement included......lmao...Hoo Roo

SWMBO washes her hair every morning.  Makes for lots of water.

Early in the piece I fitted a shower head with the lowest water flow rating that I could find.

I go for a walk while she showers so I can't hear the pump going for sooo long.  Saves arguments.  Do the same when she is on the prepaid phone (long calls).

Of course we rarely free camp, mainly because of the water use rate.

Nice work Goldfinger.

Some news papers could use your scribble for their daily news, probably make more gold writing.

Hey Goldy - Billeeeeeee is the only other person I have heard use that saying re toilet paper - but he uses one more sheet than you - one up, one down, two to polish!!!

We can both have a shower with a 10 litre bucket of water, no problem.

Hi All, We are about to embark on another adventure with a new shower.  7 litre garden spray pump-up bottle.  Lengthened the hose to the handle, and shortened the wand length to minimal.  Read about it on another Forum. I figure that we can leave it in the sun for hot water, and the bloke that posted the info said that he uses 2-3 litres per wash.  Not sure of the pressure wash up the clacker but we are going to give it a go! HAPPY CAMPING!  Cheers.  Brownie

I added another tap between hot and cold taps outlet and the shower head.

It screws directly into the existing water outlet of the taps and is in line with the shower head.

PURPOSE - SAVE WATER.

HOW - open hot and cold taps and set desired temp. Start showering and get wet - turn the new tap off to soap up - and turn on to rinse off. Do same with hair etc. The benefits are the water temp is preset and you can stop the water waste easily.

Works very well and I estimate you SAVE 75% and use 25% of what you would normally use, and you rinse off well.

Cheers Baz

Reminds me of a habit that my Brother I L got into when he was single & in the Armed Forces.

Used to use his underpants as a washer & this way did some washing while showering.  Kept up the habit for years even after he left the services.

For my part, when in the Army on camp, I would use a single mug of water in the morning to - clean teeth, shave, wash armpits & crotch.   Guess in what order.

Cupie...pragmatic solution..however...after prospecting for about 10 hours a day in the donga...when I take off my underdaks at arms length, I just throw them at the tent wall inside, where they "stick" in daily consecutive order, until I am forced to 'do a complete clothes wash'....no way would I let them anywhere near my face!.....lmao......be like Steve Martin finding/using John Candy's underdaks in that famous/infamous scene in Planes,Trains and Automobiles.....Hoo Roo

Hay goldfinger,

You don't buy your underdackies from K Mart, The seven pack  lot with the days written on them. Just incase you've missed the odd week in between!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've heard of them been able to walk on their own. BUT STICK TO THE WALLS? YOU MUST EAT A LOT OF KRAFT BRAZED STEAK & ONION 'S when out in the bush eh!

Hey Jim

Before we travel overseas, I usually go on the look out for specials on those 7 in a pack undies from Kmart etc & buy a few packs to go in the luggage.  There nicely packed too.

The plan is, rather than go to all the trouble of washing & drying them while away, I would throw them out after use.

Problem is that SWMBO is a has a washing fettish & won't let me throw them out.  Has them hanging all round the hotel rooms!!!!!

As a result I have mountains of underpants.
