Waeco CDF35 will not cool

Hi All,

i have a Waeco CDF35 Coolmatic with the Danfoss BD35F compressor.  Its 5 years old from new and has only been used 4-5 times on weekend trips.  I last used it 2-3 years ago and it was working fine.   Last week i powered it up and found the fridge will not cool.  I am getting 5 quick error light flashes which i think is a controller voltage cutout code.  the power light is on and the temp setting is on cold and the battery monitor is on low (although the error occurs on every setting).  The fan is running and ventilation is more than adequate. I cannot hear the compressor running.  I have checked the fuse in the factory merit connector/socket and it has good continuity.  I have tried powering the unit from three different sources - all readings were taken directly at the electronic controller using the factory Waeco low voltage plug:

#1 from AC rectifier (Mobitronic EPS-816A) = 14.35V.

#2 from freshly charged Optima deep cycle battery (my usual power source) = 12.30V.

#3 from cigarette lighter on my tow car with a near new battery = 13.30V engine running/11.62V in accessory key position engine off.

cut out s/b 10.4V and cut in 11.7V (correct?) so supply voltage/voltage drop should not be the problem.  i have also bridged the T and C connections to the thermostat - there was no change in function and the compressor does not run.  my research suggests a fault in the 101N0220 controller.  i have removed the controller and found nothing wrong visually with the internals and would like to test it but can find no info to do so.  i also checked for shorts between the 3 pin connector on the compressor side and the compressor housing and found no continuity/shorts.  i checked continuity between the three pins on the compressor and found nothing in excess of 2.0ohms between any of the connections.  as a result i have concluded there is no short in the compressor.  i have noted two points in the refrigerant lines that have slightly rusted and there is some light blue corrosion surrounding the lines.  corrosion appears near the thermostatic bulb and the other on the compressor return line best i can tell - is it possible this a refrigerant leak?  would that set a cutout code if the refrigerant was low/empty?  see pics for a better description of this corrosion.

the cutout error code suggests overheating of the controller but it happens immediately once powered up so I doubt heat is the culprit. any info or thoughts would be appreciated.  I tried asking "Just Answer.com" as some folks have received good tech info from them about Waecos but their techs did not have any answers whatsoever so was a complete deadend for info.

i would like to sell the fridge but want it working properly for its new owner.  thanks, Rodge

You was given the answer early in your other post. Even if the gas had leaked out the compressor should run. No gas wont give a fault code.

thank you for your reply DeBe. I had problems registering and posting here initially which resulted in the double posting. My lastest info is now on this particular thread. just typical website stuff that comes with a grain of salt but has made my quest twice as hard. i just want to know if i should fix my Waeco or sell it for parts.

Unfortunately the compressor control module is a Danfoss part not realy a Waeco part. This module & compressor are used in a lot of diferent fridges. I would say you was just plain unlucky with this one. As for the rest of a Waeco type fridge, there electronics can be bypassed reasonably cheaply. New replacement Danfoss controller is around $280 & the compressor is about the same. When I wanted a compressor for my Evacool esky project is was cheaper to purchase a second hand Waeco fridge that had a working compressor for $200 & dismantle it.
