Chris, I have seen them. I have a hinged cap on my female fitting on the tug but the den came with out the hinged cap. I have seen the hinged cap on the male end ((Den) at Autobarn VIC.

Not sure if other States have them as I was told in Queensland they use the small 7 pin round plug and big one is only used in VIC.

Maybe I should have looked more closely at what types of male plugs were available! The socket is fine. maybe I'll find something at Bunnings.....

I've never seen the male one with a cap but it's a good idea....possibly one of the walking stick caps would fit.
I'm also sick of the 12 or 7 pin flat connectors - mine are going green! and I have some new large 7 pin setups in the shed which I thought about fitting but your post has spurred me on.

EDIT...just went up the shed and found a white plastic ASASANTIN-SR CAP 200MG bottle that fits the male large 7 pin plug like a finger in a b#m.

I had a company car fitted with a 7 pin flat Britex socket which is also compatible with the 12 pin flat plug, so I duly fitted the 12 pin flat plug to the van knowing that when I retired and had my own tug I would simply fit the 12 pin flat socket which would allow me to run the fridge through the (claimed) 30 amp terminals. A single 30 amp terminal connection lasted about 300Km before it burnt out. Since I was at a lovely freecamp at Jerseyville, I discarded the burnt +ve contact and bridged 2 unused contacts for +ve and the remaining 2 for the -ve (in both the plug and socket). Guess what? they lasted about 400Km. Never again. I have to say that I had been warned about the flat plugs, and I should have heeded the advice!

That's a great idea. I'll check some of our old pill bottles. I don't take Asasantin, but we have plenty of others to try!

Denis. Never tried the finger test LOL.

My flat spade connector has a spring cover over it which shuts when disconnected and overs the male/female connecters when plugged in - but doubt if they are that water proof - maybe keep the rain off at best.

My Anderson plug has no cover and Ive had a nose at a few others in the CP Im in at the moment and they don't as well. The female is on the tug and you just shove them in together (kinda like Aussie lovemaking I guess). Woops - shouldn't have said that - sorry to the ladies and any guys of a sensitive nature

You can buy weatherproof cases for Anderson plugs and sockets on ebay, or many sellers will offer a variety of 'packs' at great prices like the ones I ordered. I found one that included 2 basic Anderson plugs/sockets, a weatherproof case for the tug 'socket' and the same for the 'plug'. supercheap auto has good quality 12 pin metal connectors which I have found to be excellent. They are much better than the plastic rubbish most manufacturers use these days

The size of the pins in the large round 7 pin plugs compared to the flat 7 pin plug makes it no contest.

Yeah. It's pretty obvious. Even the 'heavy duty' (supposedly 30 amp) connectors on the 12 pin flat are not that much bigger.
